The Swiss watchmaker, Oris, launched its new limited edition timepiece dedicated to the tenth Darryl O `Young` s Grand Prix in Macau. This newcomer is based on Oris famous TT3 model.
The new Oris TT3 Darryl O’Young Limited Edition Automatic Chronograph (ref. 774 7611 7784 Set) is housed in a titanium case which measures 44.50mm in diameter. The lightweight titanium case features DLC coating that notably reduces the chances of accidentally putting a scratch on a soft titanium surface.
The round, sporty case features a ceramic bezel with a tachymeter scale which pays tribute to Darryl’s speed. A fluted crown and two chronograph pushers are installed at the right side of the case. The front side of the case is shielded with an anti-reflective convex sapphire crystal, whereas sapphire glass is also used on its screwed back cover. The water resistance of the case is assured down to 100 meters (about 365 feet).
The new Oris is powered with the Swiss made automatic movement ORIS 774 (base caliber SW500) which animates hours, minutes, small seconds, date and chronograph display. The reliable mechanism is compiled on 26 jewels, has the frequency of 28,800 oscillations per hour (4 Hz) and offers 42 hours of power reserve guaranteeing optimal precision.
Through the case back of the watch, you can see a complex maze of mechanism elements which joined forces to provide high accuracy. The movement boasts a signature red oscillating weight although you will only see a small part of it since the case back features a black pattern that reminds of BMW’s signature multi-spoke light-alloy wheels.
As I have already mentioned, this limited edition timepiece is released in tribute to Darryl O’Young, a 33 year old racer from Hong Kong. The watch actually celebrates his Grand Prix in Macau. To highlight his achievements, a bold red 10 and accentuated 55 (his famous BMW number) are proudly displayed on the watch’s dial.
A dark gray dial comprises Arabic numerals as hour markers, two chronograph counters and a small seconds counter at the 9 o’clock position. There is also a white-on-black date window which is situated in the chrono sub-dial at the 6 o’clock position. The hour and minute hands and a small seconds hand are black nickeled and filled with white superluminova, while the chronograph hands are colored in striking red.
The new Oris is teamed with a black rubber strap with integrated black flexible lugs and diamond-like carbon PVD coated folding safety clasp. The watch is produced in the limited quantity of 500 pieces. The retail price is CHF 3,400 (approximately $3,850).
