Here we have yet another amazing collaboration. Oris has teamed up with Australia’s Royal Flying Doctor Service to create a new timepiece dubbed Oris Royal Flying Doctor Service Limited Edition II.
For those of you who do not know, the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia is one of the world’s most iconic aeromedical services for those who live, work or travel in rural, remote and regional areas of Australia. In 2013, Oris first worked with this not-for-profit organization and now the two teamed up again to create their second special edition watch.
Oris Royal Flying Doctor Service Limited Edition II is equipped with a pulsometer which can be used to take a patient’s pulse. Furthermore, the manufacturer has upgraded the pulsometer on the second limited edition by scaling it over 20 heartbeats for even faster readings.
The pulsometer scale comes in a contrasting deep orange color which has not been chosen only for its eye-catching properties, but also because it is a reference to the earth in Australia’s outback where much of the Flying Doctor Service’s work takes place.
The latest member of the brand’s Big Crown collection is tooled with a bi-directional rotating bezel which can also be used as a timer or a second time zone. This can be a very useful feature considering the fact that Australia has 3 different time-zones.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service Limited Edition II is housed in a three-piece stainless steel case, measuring 45mm in diameter. The case is shielded with sapphire glass domed on both sides with anti-reflective coating inside. Water resistance is assured down to 30 meters (100 feet).
Underneath the front glass lies a matte black dial comprising large pilot hands and numerals coated in white Superluminova to provide a perfect legibility, even in the deep darkness. A black central seconds hand is tipped with orange color. There is also a day and date window located at the 3 o’clock position. A logo of the Royal Flying Doctor Service organization is set on the dial ring at the 12 o’clock position. It is also embossed from the rear on the case back.
The new Oris’s watch is powered by the caliber 735 automatic movement which is based on Sellita SW 220-1. The impeccable mechanism provides optimum reliability and superb accuracy.
Oris Royal Flying Doctor Service Limited Edition II (ref. No. 01 735 7728 4084 LS) is produced in the limited series of 2,000 pieces. There is a choice among models which are teamed up with a brown leather strap on a pin-buckle, a brown crocodile leather strap on a folding clasp or a stainless steel bracelet. Depending on the version, the retail price is in the range from 1,900 to 2,100 Swiss francs (for stainless steel bracelet). Part of proceeds from the sale will go to the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
The watch is presented in a luxurious wooden box with a medal boasting Royal Flying Doctor Service logo on the inside.
