Oris has unveiled the new RAID 2013 Limited Edition timepiece. This newcomer is inspired by the iconic Jaguar 420 which was the winning car of the 2012 RAID Suisse-Paris classic car rally. Since 2009, Oris has been the official timekeeper for the RAID Suisse-Paris, a challenging rally for pre-1975 classic cars.
With this limited edition timepiece, Oris celebrates the 23rd edition of this 600-mile picturesque journey from Basel, Switzerland, to Paris, France. Interestingly, it is the only great rally with Paris as its final destination.
The dial of the Oris RAID 2013 Limited Edition is inspired by the unique characteristics of 1967 Jaguar 420 dashboard that won the last year’s race. The dial comprises some characteristic elements of the last year’s winning car, such as the red triangle and the signature number font. Its sporty looking dial also comprises two chronograph sub-dials – for hours and minutes – which are displayed at 6 and 12 o’clock positions. The hour chrono counter comprises a date window. The running seconds and the day window are situated at the 9 o’clock position.
The new Oris is housed in a round, masculine case crafted from stainless steel. The large-sized case measures 44mm in diameter. The case with sapphire crystal top glass is shielded on both sides with anti-reflective coating inside and it features screwed case back, thus protecting the Oris automatic mechanical chronograph movement 775 (based on SW 500). It is constructed to resist water pressure up to 50 meters (about 165 feet).
The case back is engraved with the Raid Suisse-Paris logo and limited edition serial number. The impeccable movement can store enough power to keep the watch ticking for at least 48 hours.
Oris RAID 2013 Limited Edition with the referent number 775 7686 4084 is produced in the limited quantity of only 500 pieces. Each of these timepieces is attached to a black leather strap with a stainless steel folding clasp and each is presented in a luxury wooden gift box. The Swiss retail price of this novelty is CHF 3,550, or approximately $3,745.
