The latest member of the Big Crown ProPilot line is equipped with the brand new in-house developed and manufactured movement Calibre 111. The new movement is incorporated into a functional pilot’s watch that joins together the impeccable mechanism and the iconic Big Crown ProPilot family.
Last year, in order to celebrate its 110 anniversary, Oris introduced its first in-house movement in 35 years and this year it is time for another one. Just like the last year’s Caliber 110, this mechanism is a manually-wound movement with a 10-day power reserve (all from a single mainspring barrel), a patented non-linear power reserve indicator and an additional date function. The Calibre 111 is a hand-wound movement that oscillates at the semi-rapid frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz).
Oris Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 111 Watch is housed in a vintage-inspired case crafted from satin-finished stainless steel. The 44mm multi-piece case incorporates a coin-edged bezel inspired by jet engine turbines, which is a very nice detail for the aviation-inspired timepiece. Furthermore, the non-linear power reserve indicator on the dial has been designed to look like an airplane fuel gauge.
The new Oris watch comes with a screw-in stainless steel crown and it provides a decent water resistance of up to 110 meters (about 330 feet). The watch has been coated with an anti-reflective coating on the inside of the sapphire crystal to minimise glare and to provide the utmost visibility. For the same purpose, its smooth anthracite dial comprises Arabic numerals and hour and minute hands are filled with highly legible Superluminova.
A patented non-linear power reserve indicator is located at the 3 o’clock position, while small seconds and date sub-dials are placed at the 9 o’clock o’position.
This watch is unique in one more way. It is the only timepiece in the Big Crown ProPilot collection to be fitted with a genuine Louisiana crocodile leather strap, ending with a stainless steel folding clasp. Besides, the watch is also available with either a textile strap or a stainless steel bracelet.
For all watch afficionados there is also a see-through case back where they can enjoy the inner beauty of the new Oris Big Crown ProPilot Watch.
The Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 111 (ref. 111 7711 4163) comes with the retail price of approximately $5,600 (5,200 CHF).
