The fourth edition of Only Watch charity auction has raised the record amount of money for the cause it is dedicated, with more than €4.5 million collected for the research of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Once again, a timepiece by Patek Philippe stole the show and earned the staggering donation of €1.4 million. The price reached for Patek Philippe with the reference number 3939 massively surpassed the highest valued watch of the previous edition of auction (two years ago), a timepiece by the same brand which was sold for 535,000 euros. This amount also heavily exceeds the expected price for the watch with a minute repeater and a tourbillon which was between four and six hundred thousand of euros.

Patek Philippe Ref.3939 for Only Watch
The sky-high amounts were necessary to buy watches by Richard Mille (sold for over a half a million euros), DeWitt and Bernhard Lederer. These three pieces gathered the donation just shy of million euros. Six-figure prices were also reached for Van Clef & Arpels Poetic Complication, MB&F HM4 Thunderbolt Flying Panda, Harry Winston Midnight GMT Tourbillon, Ulysse Nardin Freak Diavolo and Breguet Grande Complication.

Albert II Prince of Monaco at Only Watch 2011
On the other hand, the biggest disappointments of the show were de La Cour Mourinho City Ego that earned €7,500 and Chaumet Dandy Arty timepiece which earned just four and a half thousands euros, failing to reach the estimated minimum of ten thousand euros.

Wow, Patek reached an incredible price, much over it had been expected. If we consider the noble cause, then the price has a sense. It’s amazing that the Only Watch collected so much for those kids. Well done for all of you!
still, it seems like way too much money, although it’s a wonderful watch. but, as sarah says, it’s all for the noble cause, so i guess it’s ok. i personally prefer gagarin tourbillon.
