The new champion of U.S. Open and the world’s number one tennis player, Novak Djokovic, is the latest high-profile athlete that joined the family of Audemars Piguet’s ambassadors. The prestigious watch manufacturer from Valée de Joux thus further extended the impressive list of legendary sportsmen which already includes the greats such as LeBron James, Leo Messi, Michael Schumacher, a cricket player, Sachin Tendulkar, and famous golfers Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood. As it was explained by the representatives of the brand, Djokovic was a great choice for their company, not only for his extraordinary sport skills, but also for his humanitarian work and his taste for refined timepieces.
It would be fair to say that cooperation between Audemars Piguet and Djokovic began a couple of months ago, when the best tennis player in the world visited the brand’s workshops in Le Brassus, where the amazing skill and meticulous work are applied in the production of timepieces. The complicated process of creating fine watches left quite an impression on Djokovic who stated: “I have discovered a new passion for watchmaking and I truly admire both the traditional and modern aspects of the work accomplished by Audemars Piguet”.
The representatives of the Swiss watch manufacturer were also impressed with Djokovic. For them, his most admirable quality is the passion for charity work, expressed through his Novak Humanitarian Fund that operates mostly in his native country, Serbia.
Wishes That Became Reality
When the world’s number one tennis player officially joined Audemars Piguet, just before the start of the fourth Grand Slam, the company’s CEO, Philippe Merk, said: “We are particularly honored by the friendship we enjoy with this great champion who expresses through his sport our own values of excellence and audacity”. Besides, he expressed his wishes that Djokovic continues to play at the highest level for the rest of the season. Ultimately, this is exactly what happened, because Serbian tennis player won the U.S. Open, reached his 64th win in the season, and secured the top spot in ATP rankings until the next year.
It is still uncertain whether the brand will choose to create a unique timepiece especially for Djokovic (like Richard Mille created for Rafael Nadal), or he will just be one of the ambassadors.
