Last year, a limited number of Space Invaders has already landed on our planet. Get ready for the new invasion. The first descending spot – Parisian high-class boutique Colette. Main accomplice - RJ-Romain Jerome, in cooperation with TAITO Corporation. If you notice pixelated figures, measuring around 3.5 mm each that stare at you from the Colette’s shelves, do not get upset. Those are just new RJ-Romain Jerome Space Invaders timepieces with the emblematic blue color of the store.
Made in the ultra-limited edition of eight pieces, blue pieces are only available in the trendy boutique. Did you get upset now? Well, don’t be. Romain Jerome created Space Invaders watches in four other colors (red, green, purple and yellow – eight pieces per color) and have already started their inbrake in all brand’s points of sale in the world. The idea for these interesting and unique watches came from Manuel Emch, the CEO of RJ-Romain Jerome, who was sharing the passion for the iconic arcade game with millions of youngsters who grew up in the 1980s.
Known as the first electronic game and the first “Killer Application” on a fixed console, Space Invaders were so popular that the release of the game caused shortage of 100-yen coins in Japan. The exclusive owner of the global rights for SPACE INVADERS, TAITO Corporation, has authorized the renowned watchmaker to use its trademark characters as the light motif for a pretty cool line of timepieces.
RJ used a characteristic 46 mm case of its Moon Invader collection, which is crafted in PVD coated stainless steel with fragments of Apollo 11. Holding lugs of a rubber strap, four joints on the corners of the case are cut like the legs of the lunar landing modules of the American lunar missions. Another stunning component of the watch is its stellar-patterned case-back that represents the lunar surface. It is made of Moon SilverRJ – a silver alloy with an extremely low oxidation that comprises Moon rocks.
However, the central part of RJ-Romain Jerome Space Invaders watch is a lacquered dial that features three layers. First two layers are bead blasted and the “straight grained”, which provides a pixelated look of the third one. Minutely crafted one by one and applied manually, petit figures of Space Invaders, measuring around 3.5 mm each, transform these watches into lively pieces of art. Once again, Romain Jerome has successfully proved its reputation of the high-end watch brand that brings the history of humankind to the wrist.
