The renowned watchmaker opened the year with a true masterpiece of the haute horology which combines annual calendar and equation of time complications with a minute repeater. Despite its high complexity, the new Girard-Perregaux watch possesses the impressive aesthetic balance and the extraordinary elegance. GP’s 1966 Minute Repeater with Annual Calendar and EOT watch comes in the ultra-limited edition of 15 pieces and it is expected to cost $287,000.
With its 1966 collection, Girard-Perregaux pays tribute to the very important year in the brand’s history, when its Research & Development team created the first high frequency movement. The line reserved for the exclusive haute horological pieces is now extended with the stunning watch that for the first time combines this set of great complications. It follows the design code of the previous model in the collection – a 1966 Annual Calendar & Equation of Time. However, the implementation of the minute repeater required some changes in the construction of the case. Firstly, in order to reach the maximum resonance, an optimal match was necessary between the internal diameter of the case and the one of the mechanism. Besides, the case-back is curved to increase the air volume which is crucial for the sound quality of hour, quarter-hour and minute striking. Finally, the bottom of the case-back is diamond-polished to reduce the acoustic interference. For functional reasons, the case is larger than the one of the previous model. It has the diameter of 42mm and it is crafted in beautifully polished rose gold.
Beside the technical ingenuity, the aesthetical aspects of new Girard-Perregaux watch are also truly remarkable. A nicely designed, silvered sunburst dial features a date sub-dial at the 1:30 o’clock position. Opposite to it, there is a month indicator. The Equation of Time is displayed by a cam appearing in relief on a wheel that makes one revolution per year and it is visible at the 4:30 o’clock position. It showcases the difference between civil time (defined by men) and ‘true’, solar time that varies from day to day. Finally, the small seconds sub-dial takes the 9 o’clock position, matching the case and other rose gold elements on the dial, applied hour markers round up the overall impression of the perfect harmony. An additional dose of stylishness comes with a brown leather strap.
New Girard-Perregaux 1966 Minute Repeater with Annual Calendar and EOT watch is powered by a Caliber E09-0003 hand-winding mechanism that uses two hammers to beat out the hours, quarters and minutes.
Through the sapphire-crystal case-back, you can enjoy exquisite decorations of this high-end movement, including the balance-cock in a semi-arrow shape, the reminiscent of the brand’s signature golden bridges.
