Mouawad’s new timekeeper named Grande Ellipse Royal Chronograph is a stylish high-end product that puts a twist on a pretty standard set of features and shows how it is possible to make the watch look very distinctive without any groundbreaking new traits. It is characterized with a quite large rose gold housing of elliptical shape whose design corresponds to all the timepieces in the Grande Ellipse collection, as it is not so hard to deduce from its name. It is equipped with an automatic mechanical chronograph movement of Swiss production which, in the combination with the chunky gold housing, raises the price of this dress watch to substantial $40,500. However, this is just a starting price, since the watch is available with two additional levels of diamond decorations.

Elliptical Housing
The Grande Ellipse collection of Mouawad timekeepers features timekeepers which are, just like the one we are reviewing, placed inside an elliptical shaped housing. Its standard dimensions are the width of 43.82 mm, the length of 56.7 mm and the thickness of 15.24 mm. In this instance, the material of choice is 18 K rose gold which combined with the larger dimensions heavily contributes to the steep price of the watch. Surrounded by the fixed bezel stands the timekeeper’s double domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. Sapphire is once again used for the transparent rear section of the case whose construction enables the watch to be water resistant to 50 meters.

Mouawad Grande Ellipse Royal Chocolate Dial Watch
Beneath the cambered sapphire glass of Mouawad Grande Ellipse Royal Chronograph, there is a stylish dial, a recognizable trait of Royal Chronograph model which makes it stand out among the other timepieces in the series. It features vertical stripes ornament and has Applied Roman numerals in rose gold. Furthermore, there are three recessed chrono counters (for 30 minutes, 12 hours and small seconds) which along the appliqués and raised minute track add to the overall three-dimensional appearance. Final touches on the charming looking dial are a round aperture for date display, as well as faceted, skeletonized and luminous hands.
Swiss Automatic Chrono Movement
The watch by the high-end luxury Geneva based watchmaker and jeweler, Mouawad, is made with a Swiss self-winding movement with 25 jewels. Its two day long power storage is filled with the help of a rose gold galvanic rotor with leaf-shaped openings, another distinctive trait of the products by the brand led by the fourth generation of the Mouawad family with Lebanese roots. It should also be said that the movement with blued screws features the frequency of 28,800 vph.

Mouawad Grande Ellipse Royal Gray Dial Watch
The watch includes lugs with knurled ends whose design complements the appearance of the screw-in crown with the protector and the elements on the case band. These lugs are used to attach the case with a hand-stitched genuine alligator leather strap with water resistant lining.
Three Dial Colors, Three Levels of Decorations, Nine Variations in Total
There are nine variations of Mouawad Grande Ellipse Royal Chronograph timekeeper. Basically, there are three different options for the galvanic finished dial: chocolate, anthracite grey and silver. Each of these three colors in available in a basic version, or with additional diamond decorations. Moreover, there are two levels of additional decorations that are available for each of the dial colors. The lesser one with diamonds set in a single row on the bezel (where the total number of gems amounts to 0.8 carats), as well as the most lavish one with stones in two rows on the bezel and in seven rows on the lugs (total of 3.1 carats). Finally, it should be said that the silver and the grey faced version come with a black wristlet, while the chocolate colored variations have matching brown attachments.
