Leo wristwatch is a recently presented prototype timepiece that was designed in order to increase the safety of your loved ones, especially children. Albeit still in the development, it is already known that the product by GuardianLion company will be equipped   with a cellular phone, GPS, as well as with a panic button system that instantly alerts the authorities and parents if necessary. There is also an optional locking mechanism for the wristlet of the watch (made of “titanium-woven steel” that cannot be bypassed or opened without bolt cutters, according to the brand’s founder, Jason Sullivan.

Thanks to the planned features of Leo wristwatch, parents or guardians will be able to track the movement of their children and to know their exact location (which will probably not be that appealing to the kids being tracked). As it is announced, this will be possible on request, as well as in predetermined periods. There will also be alerts if the person that caries the watch enters or leaves a certain area that can be set using the watch’s applications. Besides, there is also an alarm that can be triggered if a wearer of the watch exceeds a speed limit which obviously means that the child is being driven in a vehicle.

Panic Button Alerts the Police and Displays the Exact Location

One of the most important features is certainly its panic button system that can be used to instantaneously alert the parents and authorities, together with the exact coordinates of a child’s whereabouts that are provided by the integrated Global Position System. Since such alerts are devised in order to be used in dangerous situations, even potential kidnappings, it was obviously important to make sure that this feature would not be triggered by a mistake or by an accidental push. That is why the panic system is activated by simultaneously pressing two push-pieces located on each side of the case.

Ugly but Could Be Useful

As it can be seen from the presented photos of the timekeeper, the appearance of the product will be similar to most low-end digital watches. The housing is rectangular shaped and just like the attachment available in various colors (for example gray, yellow, green, light blue and purple), while the face of the watch displays the current time and is dominated with the cell phone features. If a buyer requests so, it will also be possible to get the watch with the locking mechanism that is supposed to provide additional safety and disable its removal. As the GuardianLion’s CEO, founder, and inventor of Leo wristwatch, Jason Sullivan, explains, this lock is so tough that it cannot be opened and removed without bolt cutters.

Apart from children, the manufacturer recommends its product to people like Alzheimer patients or to trackers and hikers. Unfortunately, it is yet unknown which mobile phone platform will be used in the product. This is likely caused by the fact that the product is still in a prototype phase and needs additional funding in order to see the light of the day. At this moment, it is possible to pre-order the product at the price of $119 and, in a way, invest in the creation of this timepiece.

Although it seems that this product could potentially benefit the children who wear it, and maybe even save their lives (primarily its panic button system); it still is a bit controversial, especially from the privacy aspect.
