The lunar year of the goat begins on February 19, 2015. Swiss luxury watch manufacturer Jaquet Droz celebrates the Chinese Year of the Goat by unveiling two new models from its Ateliers d’Art collection. Being available in a choice of 18-karat white and 18-karat red gold, these novelties honor the Goat which is a symbol of imagination, creativity and a world of pastoral riches.
This powerful symbol is reproduced on the dial of the Petite Heure Minute model, as it springs from the summit of a mountain, exuding a sense of calm and serenity through the sapphire crystal glass. Each of the dials of the new Petite Heure Minute Goat timepieces features three goats which represent the hope of success for the year approaching.
Three miniature figurines have been rendered in three dimensions, using the relief technique. They are set against the backdrop of a stylized dial which is made either of white mother-of-pearl or black onyx. Every element of the body and every minute detail are thrown into relief in three dimensions by the skillful touch of the artisans of the Jaquet Droz Ateliers d’Art.
Its beautiful dial evokes a motif of plum blossom which is one of the four noble flowers together with bamboo, chrysanthemum and orchid that are featured in Chinese traditional iconography. The motif is made by using champlevé enameling which is an especially demanding technique that, on the other hand, guarantees a result of exceptional delicacy. A plum blossom symbolizes spring and youth refund, a time for the new beginnings.
The finished dial is a reminiscent of the exquisitely fragile masterpieces of “Jianzhi,” the Chinese art of paper cutting which is the first type of paper cutting design that dates from the middle of the first millennium.
Jaquet Droz Petite Heure Minute Goat is equipped with the Jaquet Droz caliber 2653 self-winding mechanical movement with gold oscillating weight decorated with either white mother-of-pearl or black onyx inserts and gold goat applique, hand-engraved and hand-patinated. The 28 jewels movement oscillates at the rapid frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and, thanks to its double barrel system, provides no less than 68 hours of power reserve when fully charged.
The Jaquet Droz caliber is visible via a see-through sapphire crystal case back that is also engraved with its individual limited serial number. Each of the two models is produced in a limited series of only 28 pieces.
The case of the new Petite Heure Minute Goat watch measures 41mm in diameter and 13.77mm in thickness. The water resistance is assured down to 30 meters (100 feet).
