With the Special Edition of Aero Bang Niemeyer watches, Hublot celebrates Brasilia and pays tribute to its architect, Oscar Niemeyer. As theOfficial Timekeeper of the 2014 FIFA World Cup to be held in Brazil, the renowned Swiss watchmaker has found the perfect person to work with on this project. In order to celebrate Niemeyer’s 104th birthday at the end of the year, a special series will be released, limited to just 104 pieces.
Oscar Niemeyer is one of the world’s leading architects in the 20th century, who designed a structure of theBrasilia, as well as the important parts of Brazilian most populated cities,Rio de Janeiro andSao Paulo. He is a symbol of the contemporary architecture whose flexible forms and sensual curves are woven into more than 600 projects.
Niemeyer’s work was the main inspiration for the Hublot’s timepiece. Thus, a transfer of his iconic creation in Brasilia, the stunning Square of Three Powers, as well as his signature found their places on the caseback of the watch. From the front side, the Big Bang “Aero Bang Niemeyer”, with its yellow and green elements at the matt black skeleton dial, hardly associates at the land of samba, coffee and football.
The dial features varnished green hour markers, with yellow SuperLuminova, polished black nickel hour and minute hands, also with yellow SuperLuminova, as well as a yellow chronograph hand, with the H counterweight. There are three chrono sub-dials, at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions and a date window at the 4.30 o’clock position.
The skeletonized dial reveals a nicely executed HUB4214 self-winding movement, which comprises 252 components and 27 jewels. One can enjoy the open view at the mechanism with polished and satin-finished bridges, an openworked oscillating weight, coated in black PVD and a micro-blasted, black chromium main plate. It also incorporates a reinforced spring barrel and a Glucydur hairspring escapement and provides the approximate power-reserve of 42 hours.
Hublot Big Bang “Aero Bang Niemeyer” is a masculine watch with the case diameter of 44.5 mm. The case is crafted in micro-blasted tantalum, as well as a bezel which is fixed with 6 H-shaped, black PVD titanium screws. Push pieces and a crown are made of black PVD titanium, with black rubber inserts. An adjustable black rubber and black crocodile strap, with gray stitching is an unusual solution for this kind of timepiece, but it looks solid, attached to the robust case.
The 103 pieces of Aero Bang Niemeyer will be available exclusively in Brazil. The last one, with the number 104/104, was Hublot’s present to Oscar Niemeyer.
