Hermes’s famed Arceau Le Temps Suspendu Model, initially released a couple of years ago is now released in a new iteration. Presented in a smaller housing with the width of 38 mm, the new versions in steel and red gold with optional diamond decorations preserve the peculiar complication that gave the timekeeper its name. It is a suspended time feature where after the push of a button minute and hour hands move to the 12 o’clock position and the time seems to be suspended or erased. However, the suspension of time is only ostensible since the manufacture movement of the watch keeps on ticking and another push of the button brings the watch back to life and the hands go back to the appropriate positions.
Unlike it was the case with the first model that two years ago got the award as the best men’s model at GPHG and with the model made for the Only Watch 2011 which were also supplied with a retrograde date indication, the new 38 mm wide model complements its time suspension complication with a very interesting small 24 seconds subdial which has a hand that moves in the anti-clockwise direction. When the time suspension feature is activated, this indication keeps on running to indicate that the watch is still active.
Needless to say, the unique movement that enables interesting features of Arceau Le Temps Suspendu was developed specially and exclusively for Hermes by Vaucher. For this purpose, manufacture Calibre H1912 has a special module with two patented traits: the first for its architecture and the second one for the play-reducing gear teeth. The entire structure of the movement and its recognizable complication are coordinated and operated by a pair of synchronized column wheels. Featuring the width of 10 ½ lignes and the height of 3.7 mm, the self-winding movement with the frequency of 4 Hz has a power reserve of 50 hours. Being a high-end caliber, it likewise features several decorations: circular grained and snailed baseplate, satin-brushed bridges and oscillating weight with the brand’s H logo.
Hermes Arceau Le Temps Suspendu has a very refined looking guilloched opaline silvered face which can be with or without white natural mother-of-pearl, depending on the variation. Its numerals can be diamond-polished gilded or 5N-powdered, whereas the hands are gilded and in a dark blue color.
As it has been mentioned, the watch can be bought in a 750 rose gold housing (weighing around 59 grams) or in a 316L stainless steel one with the diameter of 38 mm. Regardless of the material, the water resistance is 30 meters. Furthermore, both types of cases are available with or without 62 diamond decorations with the total weight of around 0.96 carats. The precious stones used as the ornaments are Top Wesselton V.V.S. “Extra white” to “Plus extra white”. Guarded with a glare-proof sapphire at the front and back, both versions of the watch are available with alligator straps that fasten with pin buckles that match the materials of the cases. There are several options for the color of the attachment, some of them being matte blue, elephant gray, as well as reddish or dark brown.
