As a part of the festivities which were organized to celebrate the grand opening of the new Harry Winston salon in Geneva, the Swiss brand has released a special commemorative watch called Midnight Tourbillon GMT Limited Edition Geneva. As it is hinted in its name, the novel Harry Winston watch has a self-winding mechanical movement which possesses tourbillon and second time zone complications, as well as a massive power reserve of 110 hours. Its second time zone feature with a night/day looks especially cool, since it includes a tilted aperture with the names of major cities. It thus uses a different approach to the vast majority of timekeepers that support the function. This is just one of the notable traits of this high-end timekeeper which Harry Winston released in a highly restricted issue of 5 pieces.

Harry Winston Midnight Tourbillon GMT Limited Edition Geneva is not an entirely new model, but it is still pretty exclusive. It is in fact a red gold version of the unique watch which the brand previously created for the Only Watch charity auction two years ago. As far as technical traits go, both the new Geneva edition and the unique Only Watch piece are made with HW1005 caliber which was earlier used in the tourbillon GMT model from the Ocean collection. Unlike that timepiece, the ones from the Midnight series (and the new one among them) are made with a different case construction which includes a thinner bezel and a crown without protection. It is a more classical appearance which is also exemplified in the choice of more stern Arabic numerals that replace “wacky” ones used in the Ocean lineage.

Caliber HW1005 with 34 rubies is a very complicated beast and it integrates exactly 550 parts in its construction. By the way, its diameter is 36 mm, while its height is 8.8 mm. It features a flat balance spring and a variable inertia balance wheel which oscillates at the rate of 28,800 vph. Thanks to the twin barrels set in series, the movement can provide the astonishing power reserve of 110 hours. One of the barrels includes a slipping spring which is used to prevent potential over-winding. In addition to its high-end technical specification, the movement is likewise graced with haute Horlogerie hand-finishes. Among them there are hand chamfering, vertical Geneva stripes, polished sections, as well as a black ruthenium treatment.

Overlapping Circles

The limited edition watch made for the Harry Winston Geneva salon is made with a 45 mm wide 18 K red gold housing. Its crystal is like the transparent case-back made from sapphire, while the water resistance measures to 30 meters. It has a distinguished looking black face with lots of overlapping circles and off-centered indications. The unmistakable feature of the dial is certainly its tourbillon which is likewise utilized to show seconds, since it has a one-minute long rotational period. There are two major dials made with the use of satin-brushed sections. While the main dial sits on the right, an auxiliary GMT counter with a night and day indicator is placed on the left side. Both of these dials are made with the use of satin-brushed chapter rings with applied red gold numerals and hands. Another charming detail is the presence of an aperture with indications for major cities which signify different time zones. The tilted display with the names of the cities shows the name of the current time zone in a different color. The current city is displayed along with the previous and the following one. Finally, it should be noted that Harry Winston Midnight Tourbillon GMT Limited Edition Geneva timekeeper has a black alligator leather strap which closes with a red gold ardillon buckle.
