The British watchmaker with the production facilities in Switzerland, Graham 1695, has introduced a new watch in its Silverstone series which celebrates cars and racing, as it is evident even from the first glance. The new timepiece is called Graham Silverstone RS Skeleton and it comes with a completely redone structure of the case which includes a different type of bezel that is actually larger than the case, as well as with a new type of crown. When technical traits are concerned, this racing-inspired watch is a self-winding chronograph and Graham opted to offer a complete insight into the functioning of the watch’s mechanical movement. Not only that its working can be observed through the skeleton dial and the exhibition case-back, but also through a small porthole at the side of the casing. The black and gray-faced watch is available in three versions which are different among itself only when the color of the accents is concerned. There is a red, a blue and a green-accented version and each of them is constructed in a limited edition of 250 pieces.
New Case Design
The mentioned new type of the case crafted from stainless steel includes a few novel elements. Among them are the different reduced size of the crown and steel pushers which are substantially smaller than the ones previously used in the Silverstone series, named after the famous British racing circuit. This time, the crown is protected by a bayonet system as well as a safety colored ring. However, the most notable novelty is a new type of bezel which is made of black ceramic and features a tachymetric scale with gray numerals. This bezel is actually made with a bit larger diameter than the 46 mm wide round housing and has a colorful ring made of knurled aluminum under it. This ring which is decorated with a Clous de Paris hobnail pattern is only visible when you look at the case from a side. The caseband, or more accurately its section at the ten o’clock, features a small porthole. This very clever trait enables the wearer to take a peek and observe the workings of the movement’s escapement and balance wheel. At the front side of the watch, there is a sapphire crystal that has the glare-proof coating at both sides and includes a “Graham” inscription at the top. Sapphire is likewise included on a transparent case-back which is secured with black PVD treated screws. The rear crystal also includes an inscription that denotes the number of the specific model in the 250-piece limited series. Thanks to the construction, the timekeeper can withstand water pressure to 100 meters.
Open-worked Hand-Decorated Automatic Chrono Movement
The obvious racing theme of the watch seems even more punctuated with the decision to reveal the mechanics of its shaded gray and rhodium movement by skeletonizing the dial. One the front side, one can observe gear wheels, while there are also open-worked balance bridge and plates, as well as an oscillating weight on the rear side. The movement in question is caliber G1790 with automatic-winding and a chronograph complication. It operates at the high frequency of 28,800 vph and integrates 29 jewels in its construction. Once fully wound, the automatic caliber features a power reserve of 46 hours, whereas its shock resistance is improved with Incablock shock absorber system. When decorations are concerned, caliber G1790 is graced with hand-drawn strokes motif as well as with a snailed external segment that is features on the oscillating weight of its self-winding system.
Graham Silverstone RS Skeleton timepiece includes a black and gray skeleton dial which features a black chapter ring with white Super-LumiNova markers. It likewise in and minute involves fairly large luminous hour and minute hands, a sweeping central second hand and chrono counters for 30-minutes and small seconds.
One of the most obvious nods to the racing inspiration of the Graham’s newcomer is its rubber band which replicates the appearance a tire of a racing car. The black rubber band is joined to the case by beveled and polished steel lugs and it lock with a folding buckle made from the same material.
Red, Blue or Green Accents
There are three versions of Graham Silverstone RS Skeleton watch which are different only in the sense that they have different color of accents that, as the brand’s representatives say, indicate different racing team affections. These colored accents are: central seconds hand, chrono pointers, aluminum ring underneath the bezel, crown protector and a single off-centered line on the left side of the wristlet. Depending on the details color, we can differentiate a red (the reference number 2STAC1.B01A), a blue (the 2STAC3.B01A) and a green-accented (the 2STAC2.B01A) Silverstone RS Skelton models. Each of three versions is launched in 250 pieces.
