The Swiss Jura-based manufacturer, Edox, has expanded its portfolio with a new Extreme Sailing Series special edition model. This newcomer is a part of the well-known Grand Ocean collection and it features the basic styling like other members of this watch line.

Edox Grand Ocean Extreme Sailing Series Special Edition Blue Dial Watch
The new Edox Grand Ocean Extreme Sailing Series Special Edition is available in three variants: with black, blue and pink PVD-coated stainless steel case. The oversized case measures 48mm in diameter and incorporates a fixed notched bezel. The inner bezel flange features a standard tachymeter scale. The case is protected on both sides with antireflective sapphire crystals. The exclusive limited edition watch is able to dive to the depths of 300 meters (about 900 feet).
Furthermore, the new Extreme Sailing Series special edition timepiece boasts a specially designed engraving on the case back which commemorates the partnership between Edox and Extreme Sailing Series – an annual prestigious racing series, raced in Extreme 40 catamarans, thus cementing the Special Edition’s unique place in the Grand Ocean line.

The beating heart of the watch is the Edox 45 automatic movement (based on ETA 2892-A2 ebauche and Dubois Depraz 4500 add-on chronograph module). The Swiss-made movement, collected on the 49 jewels (21+28), has the frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), 42-hour power reserve and functions of hours, minutes, small seconds, big date and chronograph.
Usually, oversized timepieces feature disproportionate dials and too long hour and minute hands, but the new Edox looks pretty cool. It has a big date aperture located at the 12 o’clock position, but it is diminished with the brand’s logo above it. Its dial is equipped with three sub-dials, applied steel hour indexes, and hour and minute hands coated with luminescent white substance that improves visibility in low-light conditions. A counter located at the 9 o’clock position is a vital tool for sailors. It is a display that counts down four minutes to race time.
Edox Grand Ocean Extreme Sailing Series Watch is attached to a black structured (leather-style) rubber strap, fitted with a stainless steel buckle with engraved Edox logo. The recommended retail price is CHF 4,900 (approximately $5,460), which is not too much for such a great timekeeping companion.
Edox has recently become the Official Timekeeper for the Extreme Sailing Series and this novelty celebrates this partnership. The Swiss watch company is also the Official Timekeeper for the Dakar Rally and the Class-1 World Powerboat Championship (read our reviews of the Edox Ghost Ship Limited Edition Watch dedicated to the Class-1 World Powerboat Championship, as well as Edox Dakar Limited Edition 2012 and Edox Chronodakar Limited Edition 2013 which commemorate the partnership with the Dakar Rally).
