DeWitt Academia Chronostream II is a fine looking automatic chronograph with discrete modern details hidden inside its overall classic theme. It features a harmonious bi-compax dial with a black guilloched pattern at the center and also possesses applied elements in rose gold. The same material was also predominately used in the construction of its round mid-sized case. The second iteration of the Chronostream model from the brand’s Academia collection comes at the price of around $47,200.
The novel chronograph by DeWitt distinguishes itself from the predecessor with the Chronostream designation mostly with its improved legibility. Unlike the first model, this one does not have a grill of a vintage car as a central motif on its silvered dial. The refined design of the face is exactly the trait that enables the dose of nobility that is expected for a piece with such price and origin. When it comes to the origin, we should mention that the founder of the brand, Jerome de Witt, is a direct descendent of Napoleon, as it is hinted in all of the watches from his Geneva-based brand.
The newcomer from the Academia series is no exception. One of such details is the use of the imperial columns motif which can be seen on the tachymetric scale on the outskirts of the dial whose center is dominated with a black guilloched Cloue de Paris pattern. The dark face also includes skeletonized gold hour and minute hands and blue chrono pointers. There are two subsidiary dials for its chronograph function which are encircled with gold rings. One of them is for 30 chrono minutes, while the other one shows small seconds.
Academia Chronostream II likewise has applied gold hour markers and six Roman numerals on the dial. Moreover, the face features blue elements on the tachymetric scale which match the color of the central chrono hand and the other assorted pointers of its chrono feature.
The piece is placed inside a round housing with the diameter of 42.5 mm and the thickness of 14.2 mm. The case adjoined to the narrow fixed bezel is mostly made from 18 K rose gold. On its side, one can notice black rubber elements combined with gold in order to form another Imperial columns motif which makes the DeWitt timekeepers instantly recognizable. Its waterproofness is 30 meters.
DeWitt Chrostream II runs on a self-winding mechanical movement DW6005. The 36-jeweled caliber with Glucydur balance has the frequency of 4 Hz and the power reserve of two days.
The piece is paired with a black alligator leather strap that locks with a triple-folding clasp.
