It’s been a year since Depardieu applied for Russian citizenship and received a Russian passport after he refused his French citizenship as a protest against the tax policy of French government.
“I have recently become a Russian citizen and I am proud of this because I see that in Russia people live very well. I’ve seen people in the full flower democracy,” said Depardieu last March in Chechnya where he filmed his latest movie. Last year, the well-known actor also personally met with the Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
Last year, Depardieu also starred in a Russian reproduction of “Rasputin” where he played the title role of one of the most notorious characters in Russian history who lived in the early 20th century.
