Caribbean islands Cuba, Tortuga and Santo Domingo were once a favorite hunting ground for pirates. Do not forget their hidden beaches and stories about buried treasures. Echoing this spirit of freedom, the famous Swiss watchmaking brand Cuervo y Sobrinos honors the rebellious and romantic side of the buccaneers with the exquisite Torpedo Pirata GMT Watch.
The case of the Cuervo y Sobrinos Torpedo Pirata GMT is in the shape of a cannon mouth, whilst the lugs impersonate the bow of a ship on the Caribbean Sea. The subtle design of its crown is in the shape of the globe, whereas the buckle mirrors the design of the lugs. Furthermore, the latest addition from the Cuban-Swiss manufacturer brings an innovation that, so far, has not been seen in the watchmaking industry: a modular case with interchangeable rings fitted between the case and the bezel.
The watch is housed in a round case measuring 45mm in diameter and 12.40mm in thickness. The case combines different materials to reflect the spirit of freedom of the bygone era. The new timepiece is available in bronze with titanium, burnished steel and Cuervo y Sobrinos offers white (ref. 3052.5WGMT) and black versions (ref. 3052.5NGMT) of the watch.
The beating heart of the exceptional novelty is the caliber CYS 5123 automatic movement (SW 330-1) that is capable to store enough energy to keep the watch ticking for no less than 40 hours when fully charged. The impeccable mechanical mechanism is fitted with 25 jewels, and its functions include hours, minutes, seconds, as well as second timezone and a date display at the 6 o’clock position.
From the rear, the screwed sapphire crystal case back shows the stunning details of the movement. Engraved on the crystal case back there is a unique logo with 2 swords surrounding the classic Cuervo y Sobrinos logo. The water resistance of the case is assured down to 50 meters (approximately 165 feet).
The Torpedo Pirata GMT watch is teamed up with a black alligator or ostrich strap with gray stitching, ending with a pin buckle in titanium.
The watch designed to capture the brazenness of the great pirates is delivered in an elegant wooden case that doubles as a luxurious cigar humidifier, just like all timepiece from the manufacturer.
The last, but not the least, the new Cuervo y Sobrinos watch comes with the retail price of $6,500.
