Last year, Corum celebrated the 50th anniversary of its first coin watch. This very first model in Coin collection was created in 1964 with a historic American Coin, the famous 20$ Double Eagle which was stamped with the seal of liberty. The latter was launched in 1849 and it was used until 1933. After it was withdrawn from circulation, it became a collector’s item. This coin was a perfect symbol of the construction and growth of the American nation.
To commemorate this jubilee, the famous watchmaker unveiled two exclusive limited editions with original US$ coins minted in 2014: the American Gold Eagle and American Silver Eagle. The first one features 22-karat gold American Liberty Coins (ref. C082/02481), while the second one boasts 925 silver American Liberty Coins (ref. C082/02495). Corum has created limited editions of 100 specimens in each of the two versions, which will be sold either as a set or separately.
The gold variant of the 50th Anniversary Coin watch comes with a diameter of only 36 mm, while the silver model measures 43mm in diameter and it is the largest Coin Watch ever made (the coin itself is a little bit smaller with the diameter of 40.6mm). True to the brand’s tradition, both models feature diamonds set on the top of their crowns.
Both models are powered with the same movement – automatic CO 082 movement which drives hour and minute hands. The mechanism is capable to store enough power to keep the watch ticking for at least 42 hours. The movement oscillates at the frequency of 28,800 beats per hour (4 Hz). The oscillating weight engraved with the Corum coat-of-arms is beating invisibly under the back cover of the watch, which represents the rear side of the coin showing the minting year 2014.
Corum Coin 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Watch is shielded with sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating. The watch is constructed to resist water pressure up to 30 meters (about 100 feet) for the gold model, and up to 10 meters for the silver one.
Both Corum Coin 50th Anniversary timepieces come with black alligator leather straps, ending with either 18-karat 3N yellow gold or stainless steel buckles depending on a model.
