After successful launching of the Mille Miglia GTS collection in 2015, Chopard unveils the new member for their flagship Mille Miglia line. The Mille Miglia GTS Automatic Speed Black features large Arabic numerals 6 and 12 recalling the dashboard of a racing car from the 1950s, the engine-type finishing and the black rubber strap with a vintage Dunlop racing tires pattern, which together make this newcomer a racing beast that will definitely make happy all car aficionados.
Chopard Mille Miglia GTS Automatic Speed Black is housed in a DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) treated stainless steel case measuring 43mm in diameter and 11.43mm in thickness. A DLC coating, despite the fact that it looks nice, it also shields the case from scratches. The case that echoes a good-old-days charm is topped with a bezel with a graduated black aluminum insert with shiny black numerals. There is also a large steel crown which is also treated with a black DLC coating to match the rest of the case. The water resistance is assured down to 100 meters (about 330 feet).
Underneath the front sapphire glass lies a velvet-finished black dial that provides an amazing backdrop to the luminescent indexes, hands and numerals. A recognizable “Rossa Corsa” red arrow-shaped Mille Miglia logo appears at the 3 o’clock position on the dial framing a black date display.
From the rear, the screw-in case back is secured by eight PVD-treated black screws and engraved around the rim with the inscription “Mille Miglia GTS Speed black.” The see-through crystal is tinted and surrounded by a bright red gasket and provides fascinating glimpses of the Chopard Caliber 01.01-M self-winding movement which is capable to store enough energy to keep the watch ticking for at least 60 hours.
The mechanism is certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) thus offering the utmost precision which is an important factor for any race-themed timepiece given the demands during competitive conditions. It is built on 31 jewels and oscillates at the frequency of 28,800 alternations per hour (4 Hz). The impeccable movement features engine-style finishes and the open-worked oscillating weight. The mainplate boasts a circular grained decoration. The Haute-horology finishing of the caliber took inspiration from the vintage motorsport – the rifled bridges are echoing the cooling fins on racing cars.
Chopard Mille Miglia GTS Automatic Speed Black Watch (ref. 168565-3002) is teamed up with the comfortable integrated black rubber strap inspired by 1960s Dunlop racing tires which keeps the watch secured to the wrist with a DLC-coated stainless steel folding clasp.
The watch created for vintage car racing lovers is issued in the limited series of 1,000 pieces and it can be purchased for $6,900.
