Chopard unveiled the new Mille Miglia Race Edition for 2014 that features a little bit more vintage look with a slender cursive dial font and soldered lugs. This novelty has softer lines and exudes with more expressive “Italian” flavor thanks to the Italian national flag colors on it: a red tachometric scale and hands, a white dial and a green minute track.
Chopard Mille Miglia Chronograph Race Edition 2014 is an old-fashioned chronograph with gentleman’s driver-style personality and distinctively Italian profile.
The new model is available in either a stainless steel case or in an 18-karat rose gold one. The latter is produced in a limited series of 250 pieces. Both versions feature mid-sized cases which measure 42mm in diameter and 12.31mm in thickness. The watch is protected on both sides with scratch-resistant sapphire crystals. Underneath the front glare-proofed sapphire glass lies a sporty dial with vintage detailing.
The slender, cursive fonts used on the dial are created in the spirit of the 1920’s lettering. Two chronograph counters for measuring time up to 12 hours and 30 minutes are situated at 6 and 9 o’clock positions, while a small seconds sub-dial is placed at the 3 o’clock position. A black-on-white date aperture is located between 4 and 5 o’clock positions. Furthermore, the luminescent coating applied on hour and minute hands and numerals guarantees excellent legibility no matter how poor the visibility is. As we got used to from Mille Miglia timepieces, there is a red arrow-shaped Mille Miglia logo on the dial.
Mille Miglia Edition 2014 is powered with the reliable and precise automatic mechanical movement which is tooled with Chronometer certificate issued by the COSC. The self-winding mechanism provides at least 42 hours of power reserve when fully wound and has a beating rate of 28,800 beats per hour (4 Hz). This year’s model comes with a see-through sapphire case back where the inner beauty of the mechanism is visible. The case back also features the well-known arrow-shaped race’s logo.
The new Mille Miglia instead of the standard rubber strap comes with Dunlop tyre motif Barenia calfskin leather strap which themselves have been inspired by the bonnet straps on vintage cars. The stainless steel model with the referent number 168511-3036 can be purchased for $5,520, while the gold version with the referent number 161274-5006 comes with the retail price of $19,110.
Since 1988, Chopard has been the official timekeeper and the main sponsor of the Mille Miglia race. Each year Chopard produces a new limited edition chronograph to commemorate the race which is acknowledged by connoisseurs as the most beautiful race in the world.
