Chopard continues to support the “world’s most beautiful race” with the new Mille Miglia 2016 XL Race Edition Watch which is offered in stainless steel case. This year’s model will make happy all the lovers of motorsport-inspired watches, just like the previous special editions that honor the legendary car race.
The Mille Miglia 2016 XL Race Edition features an incredible racing spirit. The watch is equipped with the new Chopard caliber 03.05-C chronograph movement which comes with COSC-certified precision that is an important factor for any race-themed watch.
The self-winding mechanism is tooled with a column wheel, completely developed, designed and assembled in the Chopard’s Fleurier Ébauches workshops. The impeccable mechanical movement powers the hours, minutes, seconds, as well as chronograph and aperture-style date functions. The power reserve is assured up to decent 60 hours of autonomy. The movement operates at the rapid frequency of 28,800 alternations per hour (4 Hz).
Chopard Mille Miglia 2016 is inspired by the classic cars that took part in the race between 1927 and 1940. The new Mille Miglia Edition comes in a sturdy stainless steel case measuring 46mm in diameter which makes it the largest Mille Miglia chronograph ever created by Chopard. The classic and refined lines are enhanced by two traditional push-pieces and a fluted crown. The case construction offers water resistance up to 50 meters (approximately 165 feet).
Surrounded with a tachymetric scale, the perfectly readable dial revives the aesthetic of vintage dashboards. The circular satin-brushed black dial comprises wide Arabic numerals, two chronograph sub-dials, a small seconds counter, luminescent hour and minute hands and the striking red sweep-seconds hand which stands out clearly to count off the precious seconds of the race. The upper part of the dial is reserved for the “Rossa Corsa” red arrow-shaped Mille Miglia logo that we can also find at the reverse side of the watch.
Chopard Mille Miglia 2016 XL Race Edition features the sapphire crystal case back that offers a glimpse at the movement. Actually, the bridges cover up most of the mechanism, but the quality of the movement and its finishing more than makes up for this issue.
The race-themed timepiece is attached to a strap in brown “Suportlo” calfskin which gives it a weathered look and echoes the legendary spirit of the competition.
This year’s Mille Miglia timepiece is produced in the limited series of 1,000 specimens. The retail price is $14,060. For the car enthusiast, this could be a good purchase considering the high quality in terms of both mechanism and finishes.
