A famous Chaumet Dandy watch from 2009 has gotten new faces, presented through an interesting Arty Open Face Edition. Two new models – Snowy Obsidian and Tiger’s Eye come distinguished by unique flanges in ornamental stones, protected by sapphire glass. Produced in limited series of 18 and 12 pieces, these watches from the famous French jewellery watch house are designed for those who choose to differ from others.

Chaumet Dandy Arty Open Face Snowy Obsidian Watch
Instead of the classic dial of previous Dandy models, a new black lacquered face surrounded by a large, bold looking flange is designed to open a view on a movement plate that is perfectly cut-out in order to reveal a bridge part, as well as the perpetual rotation of the second’s wheel. Two off-centered sub-dials intersect each other. Located at the 9 o’clock position, the larger one displays hours and minutes, while the sub-dial at the 9 o’clock position indicates seconds.
Of course, the flanges in ornamental stones are the absolute highlights of the new Dandy Arty Open Face Edition. While the motif of the Snow Obsidian model represents snowflakes, Tiger’s Eye comes with the nicely executed flange depicting black and golden shades of the tiger. Every ornamental stone motif is one of a kind which gives each Dandy Arty edition Open Face timepieces a doze of uniqueness.
New timepieces feature signature cushion-shaped cases which pay tribute to classic pocket watches. In order to save perfect proportions of the case, the French watchmakers put a crown at the 12 o’clock position. For the Dandy Arty Open Face Snowy Obsidian watch, the case is made of stainless steel, featuring the crown with a black lacquered cabochon. The case of the Tiger’s Eye model is crafted in 18 karat 5N pink gold, featuring a crown set with 1 onyx cabochon. Both versions are 40 mm wide and both nicely match patent black calf leather straps, adorned with black satin Bayadère stripes. A double-folding buckle with safety pushbuttons secures the watch and provides comfort.

Chaumet Dandy Arty Open Face Tigers Eyes Watch
A sapphire crystal case-back, engraved with the emblematic Dandy striped motif, opens a clear look on a Chaumet’s Calibre CP12V-V self-winding movement, designed by Jean-Marc Wiederrecht. This high-quality mechanism incorporates an oscillating weight adorned with the Dandy tapisserie motif.
New Chaumet’s Snowy Obsidian and Tiger’s Eye watches come in extra-limited editions, so if you are attracted with these bold models, you have to be quick. Personally, I admire the open-work and the idea of creating ornamental flanges, but I still prefer simpler designs of some previous models.
