Two New Versions of the 2012 Best Ladies’ Watch – Chanel Première Flying Tourbillon Watches

Chanel prepared two new versions of its number one ladies’ model – beautiful, luxurious and technologically advanced Première Flying Tourbillon watch. Keeping the same geometry of the Chanel’s No. 5 perfume bottle stopper, as well as a stylish design of the last year’s model, the first novelty makes the distinction with its octagonal bezel adorned with blue sapphires. Gentle and feminine, the second version features a snow white dial combined with a pink sapphire-set bezel.  Of course, this is not just a jewelry masterpiece, but a true jewel of the haute horology that reveals one of the most valuable complications – a flying tourbillon.

The last year’s Premiere Flying Tourbillon watch won the prestigious Ladies’ Watch of the Year title, at the twelfth Grand Prix d’horlogerie de Genève. It was a more than a good reason for the famous French brand to come with a new series of this stunning timepiece. Although it was impossible to surpass the perfection (I think that the last year’s model deserves that qualification), the new versions definitely offer something new through their vivid colors. While the blue sapphire model clearly looks just like a subtle modification of the 2012 model that appeared as the brand’s first flying tourbillon watch, the pink sapphire timepiece seems like a completely new watch. Since they come in two ultra-limited editions of 5 pieces, there is no doubt that these watches will be highly sought-after.

Both watches are made of 18 karat white gold set with 182 sapphires (blue or pink) for a total weight of 12.99 carats. Precious stones are carefully arranged on the visually most important components. Thus, the white gold bezel features 112 baguette-cut sapphires, 39 of them adorn the 28.5 x 37mm case, while 15 brilliant-cut diamonds cover 18 karat white gold hands. A tourbillon cabochon is set with 19 brilliant-cut diamonds, while a white gold crown comes with 16 baguette-cut and one rose-cut sapphire. Finally, there are 14 baguette-cut sapphires on a double folding buckle, attached on either an alligator or satin strap.

The blue sapphire version comes with a black strap, while the pink version features a white strap, both matching colors of their brilliantly polished ceramic dials. There are covered with anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The highlight of the watch is revealed at the 6 o’clock position. It is an exquisite flying tourbillon, decorated with the motif of the camellia – Mademoiselle Chanel’s favorite flower. Completing a full rotation in one minute, this great complication comprises interlocked petals that indicate seconds, with a central part set with diamonds.

The high-end Camélia Flying Tourbillon Caliber hand-winding movement is developed in collaboration among Chanel and the Swiss manufactures, engineers and master-watchmakers Renaud & Papi (APRP SA). It is mounted on a custom-designed rectangular bottom plate, featuring chamfered, drawn and circular-grained finishes and parts. This mechanism oscillates at the frequency of 21’600 vibrations per hour and provides the power-reserve of 40 hours.
