As a part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the G-Shock collection, Casio has presented a limited collection dedicated to one of its numerous ambassadors, the famous hip-hop artist Eminem. Based on the XL-6900 platform (the enlarged version of the famed 6900 model) and decorated and personalized with the content that evokes the music and personality of the rapper, the collaborative piece is scheduled to hit the stores this December at the price of $180.
The collaboration between Slim Shady and Casio G-Shock is quite unsurprising, especially considering the brand’s intentions to associate itself with the renowned representatives of the street culture. Better known for one of his aliases than for his birth name Marshall Mathers, Eminem has so far been awarded with no less than 13 Grammies. His career includes several movie roles, but when the music is concerned, he is not just a performer, but also a songwriter and a producer. The artist himself has worn G-Shock products on numerous occasions and both music videos and live performances. This is why the presentation of a limited edition piece made for Eminem by Casio comes as a next logical step.
The watch for the rapper bears the reference number GDX6900MNM-1 and is dominated with a black color for the resin case and strap, as well as with a black reverse LCD display with red indications. As the watchmaker reveled, the black color is a reference to the artists troubled and shady past in the city of Detroit. The Motor City obviously had a big part in shaping Eminem and making him what he is today, which is indicated with the representation of the city’s skyline, printed in red color on the upper part of the strap. The references to the rapper are present on several other spots, so one can notice the reverse letter “E” that signifies his alias Eminem on the dial, as well as on the buckle. Moreover, the case-back and the lower part of the rubber band bear the rapper’s other alias “Shady”.
Apart from personalized details that are associated with Eminem’s iconography, the watch has all the qualities of a G-Shock timekeeper alongside its renowned toughness and resistance to electric shocks, gravity, low temperature, vibrations and bumps. Additionally, it is water proof to 200 meters, has Auto LED Super Illuminator feature, Casio’s usual five daily alarms with flash alert, world time feature with info for 48 major cities around the globe, as well as multi-home settings that could be quite handy to people such as Eminem who spend a lot of time touring.
As a part of numerous promotional events which are organized to mark the start of the forth decade of the existence of the G-Shock brand, Eminem’s Casio timekeeper was presented at the event held earlier this month in New York City. Speaking about the new product, Shinegori Itoh, Chairman and CEO of Casio America stated: “With hip-hop it’s as much about where it’s from as who it’s for. Eminem has an immense and loyal fan base around the world, as foes G-Shock, making this collaboration one that will connect closely with many thousands of collective fans.” The new collaborative timepiece will have the price of $180 and will be available for sale at the end of the year.
