The Swiss national soccer team is one of the participants of the upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Thus, it is clear why Carl F. Bucherer which is the team’s official partner decided to launch a special edition watch dedicated to the country’s involvement in the event. The watch in question is Patravi ScubaTec Special Edition. It is a part of the brand’s sportive Patravi collection, but it is also clearly and prominently a diving timekeeper, so it is not that obvious why the piece was chosen for the specific occasion. The new model will be serially produced, so the fact that makes it a special edition is not its exclusivity. What makes it special is in fact the presence of some of its customized details, such as the logo of the national football federation on the bezel, as well as an engraving of a football and the name of a specific player from the team at the case-back. Carl F. Bucherer ScubaTec Patravi Special Edition SFV will be sold at the price of around $7,075.
The new special edition piece which tributes the Swiss national soccer and has “SFV” in its name (which is short for Swiss Football Association) is basically just a slightly customized Patravi ScubaTec model which was originally presented last year. As it has been said, it is not quite clear why the model was selected for this specific purpose (except for the fact that it is one of the brand’s latest models), but it is still a pretty neat timekeeper with a few impressive traits. Among them there is clearly its water resistance to as much as 500 meters which is achieved with the inclusion of an automatic helium valve. Moreover, it includes a self-winding mechanical Caliber CFB 1950.1 movement that has a chronometric certification as the proof of its accuracy.
As for the things that separate the new special edition from the regular model, the first thing that catches the eye is a different color scheme – the new piece dedicated to the soccer team is with red accents (instead of blue) on a black basis. Not entirely the colors of the Swiss flag, but it is quite obvious that it looks better this way than if it was red and white. These red details are visible on its unidirectional rotating bezel (first 15-minute section is red) with ceramic inserts, as well as on its black rubber strap with integrated adjustment. On the very bottom of the bezel, there is the SFV logo instead of numeral “30”. Furthermore, there are some inscriptions in red color on its black dial which is protected with a glare-proofed sapphire glass. The last remaining customized section of the special edition is visible only once you flip its steel case with the diameter of 44.6 mm and the thickness of 9.54 mm to the rear side. On the solid metal case-back, there is an engraving of the ball and of the name of a player from the team. Each of the players has their own dedicated watch which allows the fans to pick the ones with their favorite players.
