The winner of the 2013 Concorso d’Eleganza “Best of Show” trophy, the famous fashion designer Ralph Lauren, was awarded with a beautiful one-of-a-kind GMT timepiece, specially created by A. Lange & Söhne for this prestigious event. The Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este is held by the waters of Lake Como, every year, since 1929, celebrating ultra-exclusive historic cars. This year, the one that stood out for its beauty, spirit and distinctiveness was the Ralph Lauren’s Bugatti 57 SC Atlantic Coupé with a coachwork from Jean Bugatti, built in 1938.
This was the second year that A. Lange & Söhne sponsored this stunning “Historic Cars” festival, awarding the winner of the “Best of Show” category with its unique creations. This year, it was a one-of-a-kind Concorso Edition of the Lange 1 Time Zone watch.
Besides its standard features that made this watch one of the most impressive dual time-zone models, the novelty comes with an 18 karat white gold case-back, with the hand-engraved coat of arms of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. In order to mark the beautiful place of the annual event, the renowned German watchmaker took Como to represent the Central European Time (CET) on the rotating time-zone ring.
Among the versatile fashionable products created under the Ralph Lauren’s name, watches hold the important place. Thus, the special trophy, which was presented by Lange’s CEO Wilhelm Schmid, should be pretty important for the famous designer. A one-of-a-kind Lange 1 Time Zone watch comes with a stylish 18 karat gold case, with the diameter of 41.9 mm and the thickness of 11 mm. It is nicely polished and complemented by an elegant black leather strap. Surrounded by the rotating disk with names of 24 cities, a great looking, silver dial features two sub-dials for counting time in two zones. Besides, there is a large, double-date window and a power-reserve indicator. The watch is powered by an in-house Caliber L031.1 hand-winding movement, with a stunning power-reserve of 72 hours.
About 50 Historic Cars, created between the twenties and the seventies, participated on this extraordinary event held at the shore of the LakeComo. The BMW Group Trophy, called the Best of Show prize, went to the breathtaking Bugatti 57 SC Atlantic Coupé. However, this was not the only award for this luxurious vehicle. It has also won the prestigious public prize, Coppa d’Oro. In the Concept Cars and Prototypes class, the most impressive was Alfa Romeo Disco Volante by Touring.
