The famous French watchmaking brand with its independent manufacturing workshops in Switzerland, Bell & Ross, has launched two new Phantom-styled BR-03 timekeepers from the Aviation series. As it is suggested from the name of the series, as well as from the Commando part of these two watches, they are timepieces which are intended for professional use, executed with special colors and finishes that give them a certain camouflage appearance, and the brand is portraying them as the perfect instruments for the special aviation forces, due to their inconspicuousness and reliability. From the horological stand point, it is important to note that the newcomers in the series (as well as their predecessors) have automatic movements. While BR-03 92 includes only three hands and a date display, BR-03 94 includes a chronograph feature.

Two novelties with the Commando designation are not entirely new models. In fact, the main novelty is their appearance, or should we say their Commando style. The entire palette of the brand’s BR-03 timekeepers is based on BR-01 model. Unlike the archetype watch that has the width of 46 mm, BR-03 offers scaled-down and more practical versions with the diameter of 42 mm. Naturally, the same dimensions are featured in the new Commando timepieces. The main distinction of the newcomers is their extremely subtle and discrete styling, executed with the use of gray and black colors and matte finishes.

Both models are fitted into square shaped casings made from stainless steel enriched with matte black PVD finishing. This color is appropriately accompanied with a discrete gray dial with Roman numerals and hands in a slightly darker shade of grey. The same inconspicuous tone is featured on its rubber and heavy duty synthetic wristlet, completed with the large company’s logo right beneath the dial, and a pin buckle which is, just like the housing, forged from stainless steel with matte black PVD finish. Even though the dial of the watch has a darker and subdued dial, the visibility is not jeopardized, not even in the dark, since the hands are made with a photo-luminescent coating.

The quality of the construction that is present in the products of Bell & Ross is also visible through the choice of the material that is used for the crystal which is made from sapphire that has glare-proof treatment. In the recognizable manner of the brand, the round dial is combined with a square casing.

As it has been mentioned, the main distinction between two newcomers is that BR-03 94, unlike BR-03 92 Commando model by Bell & Ross, has a chronograph feature, and includes two subsidiary chrono counters (small seconds and 30-minute sub dial). Unfortunately, the brand does not provide many details on the specifications of its self-winding movements.
