BALL Watches created the very first model in its renowned Engineer Hydrocarbon Collection to be coated with DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon), in order to provide an exceptional resistance to scratches. This is extremely important characteristic, since the watch is aimed to be a reliable tool for the new brand’s ambassador, Alex Honnold, one of the world’s most daring and talented free rock climbers. Besides, the Engineer Hydrocarbon Black watch is built of ultra-light and very tough materials which, together with the use of special construction and the patented guard system, provide high comfort and durability.

New Engineer Hydrocarbon Black watch features a mid-size case with the diameter of 42 mm and the thickness of 13.25 mm. It is crafted in DLC coated titanium, which in the combination with a black ceramic bezel, ensures an exceptional lightness of the watch. Ceramic also guarantees a great resistance of corrosion, scratches and UV rays. The unidirectional rotating bezel with luminescent minute indices provides measurements of the elapsed time even in the absolute dark.
The design simplicity of this interesting model implies that its creators wanted to put the functionality on the first place. However, that does not mean that the Engineer Hydrocarbon timepiece is not competitive with other quality sport watches according to aesthetic standards. It is a modern, bold looking watch that surely can be worn aside from extreme free climbing adventures. Dominantly black, it offers a nice contrast with highly luminescent markers.
This level of luminosity is achieved by applying micro tubes containing luminescent 3H gas with light intensity more than 100 times effective than conventional luminous paints. Its green radiance ensures the superb readability even without external source of light or energy. To make the dial even more readable, the brand’s craftsmen marked hands in yellow. Along with prominent Arabic numerals, the dial features an oversized date window at the 3 o’clock position, highlighted by the Cyclops magnifying lens.
In order to provide the great protection from various shocks that can appear during rock climbing adventures, the American watchmaker developed the new patented SpringLOCK® system that guards a balance spring by a real “cage” which reduces the impact of external shocks up to 66 percents. This system keeps the high accuracy of ETA 2892-A2 self-winding movement whose great performances are proved by COSC certificate.
Another in-house developed feature that increases durability of the watch is a crown protection device which is used for all watches in the Engineer Hydrocarbon collection. Finally, this high quality timepiece is resistant to influences of magnetic fields up to 4,800 A/m and impacts of up to 5,000 Gs. Its water resistance of up to 300 meters (990 feet) and a comfortable black rubber strap make the watch very suitable for the under-water activities.
