The partner and the official timekeeper of the Tour Auto Optic 2000, the prestigious watchmaker Audemars Piguet has revealed a new Royal Oak Offshore Chrono Tour Auto 2012 watch. Produced in the Limited Edition of 150 pieces, the new AP’s racing timepiece tributes the 21st edition of the most renowned historical car rally.
The competition had set off from Paris on April 16 and after five days of rally driving through France, 220 historic cars reached Nice. Since 2006, the renowned Swiss watchmaker has been participating in this great event as the official timekeeper, each year launching a new special edition of high quality timepieces in distinctive Rally colors. This year, Audemars Piguet has chosen the Royal Oak Offshore, the ultra-sporty version of its iconic watch line which was created for the first time in 1992, the same year the Tour Auto was reborn in historical mode.
The Royal Oak Offshore Tour Auto 2012 Chronograph is a high end timepiece that demonstrates the brand’s technological expertise, combined with the finest sport elegance. Its boldly looking 42 mm case is crafted in stainless steel, showing the iconic aesthetic codes of the Royal Oak line. I am thrilled with the way it matches a blue, hand-sewn “Hornback” crocodile strap that is adorned with red stitching. If you prefer a sportier look, there is an additional blue rubber strap. A rubber-clad screw-lock crown and pushers also come in blue color.
The French national colors are also used for the dial. It is white, with “Méga Tapisserie” motif, featuring two blue sub-dials (the 30 minutes counter at the 9 o’clock position and the 12 hours counter at the 6 o’clock position). The small second sub-dial at the 12 o’clock position comes in white. The nicely designed dial also features blue Arabic numerals with luminescent coating and white gold Royal Oak hands with red luminescent coating. Besides, the white inner bezel ring is inscribed with the tachymeter scale. Finally, there is a round date aperture at the 3 o’clock position. This set of extremely accurate performances is provided by an in-house Calibre 3126/3840 self-winding movement that has the power reserve up to 60 hours.
The case-back is engraved with the Tour Auto logo, the Royal Oak Offshore logo and the “Edition limitée” inscription. The watch has a sapphire-crystal coating and it is water-resistant up to 100 meters (330 feet). Each Royal Oak Offshore Tour Auto 2012 Chronograph comes in a specially created presentation box.
