In order to celebrate the second season of the Armin Strom Sailing Team in the 2016 Great Cup 32 Sailing Series, the Swiss manufacturer has created a limited commemorative edition of its Gravity model and gave the team’s skipper and the brand’s ambassador, Flavio Marazzi, the first of 32 pieces produced for the special series.
Armin Strom Gravity Sailing Limited Edition matches black and orange colors, thus evoking the design of the Armin Strom Sailing Team’s catamaran and its sail. Just like other models from the Gravity collection, this special edition timepiece has a sporty, asymmetrical dial that exposes the micro rotor and the mainspring barrel of the automatic movement via two large apertures on the baseplate. The gear train, driving hour and minute hands, appear in the very center of the dial. The hour and minute hands are centrally positioned, whereas a small seconds counter with orange details is situated at the 9 o’clock position.
The beating heart of the Gravity Sailing Limited Edition Watch is Armin Strom caliber AMR13 with automatic winding. The impeccable mechanism is mounted on 26 jewels, and it provides an amazing power reserve of 5 days (120 hours). The movement consists of 171 individual components and it has the oscillating rate of 18,000 alternations per hour (4 Hz). The movement’s finishes include plate and bridges decorated at the highest level, escape wheel and pallets made of massive gold with hardened functional areas and screwed balance with Breguet overcoil.
This special edition Gravity model is housed in a sporty case crafted from a black PVD-coated stainless steel and shielded with anti-reflective sapphire crystals on both sides. The case measures 43.40mm in diameter and 13mm in thickness and t is constructed to provide water resistance up to 50 meters (about 165 feet).
Armin Strom Gravity Sailing Limited Edition (ref. ST16-GS.90) is mounted on a genuine black alligator leather strap, which is secured to the wearer’s wrist with a stainless steel PVD black ardillon buckle. There is also an additional black rubber strap included in the presentation box. The manufacturer also offers a double-fold clasp in stainless steel PVD black as on option.
As I have already mentioned, the watch is issued in the limited quantity of only 32 specimens. The retail price is 13,900 Swiss Francs which is around $14,200.
At the moment, the Armin Strom Sailing Team is in the fourth place in the Great Cup 32 Sailing Series which is held across Europe. Two more races are left before the series concludes in Marseille, France on October 13-16.
