The Alpina Startimer Pilot Big Date Chronograph was launched in 2012. This year, the watch comes with a new military camouflage style featuring all the necessary qualities for a high-performance Pilot’s timepiece, such as precision, functionality and reliability.
The new Startimer Camouflage Pilot Big Date Chronograph Watch (ref. AL-372MLY4FBS6) is housed in a masculine, stainless steel case with black PVD coating, measuring 44mm in diameter. The case is protected with scratch-resistant sapphire crystals, secured against drops in air pressure and constructed to resist water pressure up to 100 meters (about 330 feet). In other words, the new Startimer Camouflage Pilot Big Date boasts all the credentials of an air pilot’s wristwatch.
The front sapphire glass shields the military camouflage colored dial that comprises two black chronograph sub-dials and a small seconds counter which is located at the 6 o’clock position. The small seconds sub-dial also houses a big date window.
The hour and minute hands have a beige luminescent coating that provides high legibility in low lightening conditions. Traditionally, an unmistakable red Alpina triangle signature is found at the base of the central chronograph hand.
From the rear, the case back is encrusted with an engraving of a jet fighter, to remind us once more of its military spirit.
The case of the Alpina Startimer Camouflage Pilot Chronograph Big Date houses the AL-372 high precision Swiss quartz chronograph movement built on 13 jewels. The battery life is guaranteed for approximately 48 months.
The latest addition to Alpina’s watch family is mounted on a beige genuine leather strap which completes the watch’s overall look.
During the first half of the 20th century, Alpina was a famous watchmaker and official supplier of military and pilot’s watches for continental air forces. Their watches were accurate and provide ultimate shock resistance. Usually, they were housed in an anti-magnetic case. One more quality was a high-contrast dial with oversized luminous numerals and luminous hands that offered instant readability which is a very important feature for a high-performance pilot’s watch.
