The auction house Cornette de Saint-Cyr announced that more than 100 timepieces from the 50 year old personal collection of the French movie icon, Alain Delon, reached the fantastic $590,300 price. The auction held in Paris went way above expected thanks to Chinese buyers who purchased a number of rare watches over the phone.
The legendary actor was not participating at the auction of his precious collection that included high end brands, such as Audemars-Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, Cartier, Rolex, Blancpain, and Breitling. That did not stop his fans and avid watch collectors to come out with a few shocking bids.
Absolute highlights of the auction were an Audemars Piguet “Royal Oak” and Cartier Tank, each sold for fantastic 68,750 euros. The AP’s watch, worn by Delon in “Comme un boomerang” (1976), “Parole de flic” (1985) and “Ne reveillez pas un flic qui dort” (1988), was estimated on 2,500 euros. Cartier’s timepiece started with even lower price of 1,800 euros. Before the sale inParis, Delon’s timepieces were exhibited inHong Kong, where the 76 year old movie star is extremely popular, which can explain the extraordinary interest of Chinese buyers.
This was not Delon’s first collection that ended at the auction. As this actor, who was hospitalized earlier this week for heart problems, once explained, he hated posthumous sales and this was the reason he intended to sell personal estates. In November, Delon sold his wine collection for 250,412 euros.
