Official Watch and Timekeeper of the Kentucky Derby – Longines – has presented the Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph watches to the owner, trainer and jockey of Animal Kingdom, the winner of the 137th edition of the prestigious race. At the exclusive Winners’ Circle Gala, luxurious Longines wristwatches were given to Barry Irwin, Graham Motion and Johnny Velazquez, following the dramatic victory of Animal Kingdom. The winning horse covered the track at Churchill Downs and crossed the finish line in 2 minutes and 2.04 seconds, as recorded by Longines.
The official watch of the competition, the Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph is the embodiment of the precision and dynamic of equestrian sports. It includes a stainless steel case that holds a high-end self-winding caliber with a distinctive blue column-wheel, which can be seen through the transparent back. It also features a silver dial with 13 indexes and possesses the chronograph, sweeping second hand, as well as 30-minutes and 12-hour counters. A neat and elegant finishing touch is its classy dark brown alligator leather strap.
Aside from the Kentucky Derby, the Swiss watchmaker is also official timekeeper of many other world class sports events, such as the French Open Tennis Championships, horse races at Britain’s renowned Royal Ascot and numerous gymnastics and alpine skiing events.
