Seiko is commemorating its 130th anniversary, by launching the new powerful line of watches, at Basel World Fair. Seiko watches for 2011 are inspired with the great brand’s tradition and distinctive Japanese style. They bring the best brand’s technology and an interesting combination of retro designs and modern lines.
Japanese watchmaker refreshed most its collections with new models, which puts it among the brands with the most distinguished presence at Baselworld 2011. The centerpiece of the new line is the Credor Spring Drive Minute Repeater, an absolutely marvelous timepiece, which brings together Seiko’s masterpiece Spring Drive mechanism and the reinterpretation of the traditional minute repeater method. This technology uses both, hands and sound to mark time.
In order to get a clear and pleasing sound of the minute repeater bell gongs, Seiko craftsmen used special steel, forged by a celebrated Japanese steelmaker, Munemichi Myochin, which produces the beautiful sound, very similar to the Myochin wind bell.
The perfect purity of the traditional wind bell sound is possible, thanks to the Spring Drive, the only mechanism, which counts time silently. Another Seiko’s patent, ‘silent governor’, regulates the speed of the striking gongs, providing the perfect silence, which highlights the sound of the minute repeater.
The Credor Spring Drive Minute Repeater watch uses a simple decimal system and emits one-hour, ten-minute and one-minute sounds (for example – at 1:59 you will hear single one-hour sound, 5 ten-minute sounds and 9 one-minute sounds). This is the first minute repeater timepiece ever crafted by Seiko.
Beside this outstanding complication, the Credor Spring Drive Minute Repeater is a really functional watch, with nice design. Its case is made of 18 karat rose gold, with 42.8 mm in diameter, It matches the crocodile strap, with 18 karat rose gold three-fold clasp and push button release. Beautiful skeleton dial opens the view on the amazing mechanism. It is covered with a high definition dual-curved sapphire crystal, with anti-reflective coating, on both sides. Spring Drive provides superb power-reserve of 72 hours.
