IWC Schaffhausen celebrates the 75th Anniversary of Pisa Orologeria with a special edition of its Portugieser Annual Calendar model that will be produced in just 25 exemplars and distributed exclusively in the new flagship boutique in Via Verri in Milan. Pisa Orologeria is one of the largest Italian luxury watch retailers.

IWC Portugieser Annual Calendar Edition “Pisa” Watch

IWC Portugieser Annual Calendar Edition “Pisa” expresses the excellence of the Schaffhausen-based company and its character that left the mark in the history of watchmaking. The latest evolution of the Portugieser Annual Calendar range comes with a black dial with classic railway-track-style chapter ring.

The sleek dial features slim feuille rhodié hands, Arabic numerals and bright orange details. The choice of this color was obvious because orange can be found in all Pisa Orologeria stores due to the use of “cocciopesto” also known as Opus signinum. It is a natural plaster mixing slaked lime with fragments of earthenware or brick that was used in ancient Rome for walls and pavements.

This special edition model is housed in a 44mm stainless steel case which is constructed to resist water pressure up to 30 meters (approximately 100 feet). The watch is tooled with the IWC-manufactured caliber 52850 mechanical movement featuring an annual calendar at the 12 o’clock position which shows month, date and day in three separate apertures. Unlike a perpetual calendar, the annual calendar date switching mechanism is able to take the differing lengths of the individual months into account, except those for the differing numbers of days in February owing to leap years. So you will need to correct it manually once a year at the end of February. The manual correction can be performed via the crown, thus avoiding the use of a corrector, which would have compromised the watch’s clean design.

The impeccable mechanism is built on 36 jewels and oscillates at the rapid frequency of 28,800 alternations per hour (4 Hz). The in-house manufactured movement features two barrels and it is capable to store enough energy to keep the watch ticking for no less than 7 days (168 hours).

IWC Portugieser Annual Calendar Edition “Pisa” (ref. 5035-07) is mounted on a black alligator leather strap lined with orange leather on the inner surface. The retail price is €22,500 which is approximately $25,200.
