Last month in Amsterdam, in the occasion of oppening its new boutique, IWC Schaffhausen unveiled the latest member of the Pilots watch family – the new IWC Pilot Watch Chronograph Edition”Le Petit Prince”.
The new IWC Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph Edition “Le Petit Prince” is similar in style with the previous version of the Le Petit Prince watch, with a few changes. The third timepiece that supports the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Youth Foundation features the same eye-catching navy blue dial. The dial comprises seven stars around the center that indicate the day of the week, but in unusual way. Every day, the disc below the star cut-outs jumps, thus highlighting a star in gold to indicate the day of the week. But at the same time, the disc does not travel in a linear manner, but instead it jumps at irregular intervals every 24 hours. Therefore, the wearer is left with the complex task of deciding how the stars show the days of the week.
The stars on the dial that symbolize the planets visited by the little prince are also engraved in the same order on the back of the watch, together with the name of their inhabitants: the king, the vain man, the drunkard, the businessman, the lamplighter, the geographer and finally the rose. Considering the fact that the little prince cannot forget the latter, he returns to her at the end of his odyssey. From the rear, there is also a portrait of the little prince himself.
The striking blue dial also comprises three sub-dials. Two of them are chronograph counters for measuring time up to 12 hours and 30 minutes, while the third one is for constant seconds.
The special edition timepiece is housed in a round stainless steel case which measures 44mm in diameter and 17mm in thickness.
IWC Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph Edition “Le Petit Prince” (ref. IW371807) is powered with the caliber 79420 double chronograph movement that is capable to store enough power to keep the watch ticking for at least 44 hours. The 29 jewels movement oscillates at the rapid frequency of 28,800 beats per hour (4 Hz).
The latest edition named after Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s famous novel is produced in the limited quantity of 1,000 specimens. Each of them is attached to a matte brown calfskin strap with decorative beige stitching, ending with a steel pin buckle. The retail price at IWC boutiques is $12,700.
