Here it is yet another stunning timepiece which is a product of one great parnership – this time of a partnership between IWC Schaffhausen and the Swiss airline “JU-AIR”. The new IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “JU-AIR” is based on their mutual admiration of the iconic aircraft Junkers JU-52. The Schaffhausen-based manufacturer has been a sponsor of one of only eight still flying Junkers JU-52 planes for the last two decades and this novelty celebrates the IWC’s connection with this vintage aircraft.

IWC Pilot’s Chronograph Edition “JU-AIR” Watch
IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “JU-AIR” (ref. IW387809) has the same specifications as the basic Pilot’s Watch Chronograph. It is housed in a round stainless steel case with the diameter of 43mm. The beating heart of the watch is the IWC-manufactured caliber 89365 that has an impressive power reserve of no less than 68 hours when fully wound. The self-winding movement contains 35 jewels and has a beating rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz).
The new limited edition watch boasts significant Pilot’s watch look with the cockpit instrument details, such as the altimeter-style date window at the 3 o’clock position. There are the two register chronograph layouts for running seconds and the 60 minute counter. A red hand on the running seconds totalizer at the 6 o’clock position makes it easy to recognize each register at a glance.

IWC Pilot’s Chronograph Edition “JU-AIR” Watch Dial
A rhodium plated dial is entirely tonal with different shades of silver and white dominating. The dial appliqués, as well as both hands are filled with white luminescent substance for improved legibility even under the most demanding conditions.
The new IWC Pilot’s watch has a flyback function which allows the wearer to start and stop the stopwatch by pressing the pusher at the 2 o’clock position. Pressing the push-button at the 4 o’clock position whilst the chrono is idle, resets the stopwatch and returns to zero so it can immediately start another timing sequence. This function is very useful when repeatedly timing events in quick succession.

IWC Pilot’s Chronograph Edition “JU-AIR” Watch Case Back
The case back of the new IWC timepiece boasts an engraving of a Junkers JU-52 aircraft, while the inscription “One out of 500” refers to the limited edition (the watch is issued in series of 500 specimens).
The watch is shielded with convex sapphire crystals with antireflective coating on both sides and constructed to resist water pressure of up to 60 meters (approximately 200 feet). IWC teamed its newest model with an elegant black alligator leather strap, ending with a stainless steel folding buckle.
The famous Junkers JU-52 is a German tri-motor transport aircraft which was manufactured from 1932 to 1945. The vintage aircraft saw both civilian and military service during the 1930s and 1940s. To this day, this plane has remained synonymous with reliability, safety and quality workmanship.
