Among several novelties that IWC has launched this year, we have two useful and practical timepieces which are crafted from titanium. This material provides the utmost comfort because it is surprisingly light on the wrist. Besides, it is hypoallergenic (nickel-free) and it has excellent corrosion-resistance, which makes it well suited for divers’ watches.
These two IWC newcomers are housed in large-sized cases, each measuring 45mm in diameter and 16mm in thickness.
Like all new Ingenieur models, they come with the five characteristic ceramic screw heads on their bezels, which is a reinterpretation of Gérald Genta’s original design cues. They match perfectly with push buttons, the crown protection and the black rubber strap.
For the first time ever, the Ingenieur family has a rattrapante or split-seconds hand. The split-seconds hand is used to measure intermediate times, while the stopwatch hand continues to run. By pushing the button at the 10 o’clock position, the two hands will start to run synchronously again, which means that the user can alternate between intermediate and aggregate times as often as he wants.
The cases of these Ingenieur timepieces are protected on both sides by sapphire crystals with antireflective coating, providing water resistance of up to 120 meters (about 400 feet).
The new Ingenieur Double Chronograph Titanium is powered by the caliber 79420 mechanical chronograph movement which provides no less than 44 hours of power reserve when fully wound. The self-winding mechanism is built on 29 jewels.
IWC has offered two versions of this watch. The first one with the referent number IW386501 comes with a silver-plated dial, while the model with the reference IW386503 has a black dial surface with some eye-catching blue details on it. On both models, the hour and minute hands, as well as hour markers, are filled with luminous material for the best visibility in all kinds of lighting conditions.
Besides these two models, the Ingenieur family of watches also has another Double Chronograph Titanium Watch with the referent number IW376501. This watch is equipped with the newly developed caliber 79230 self-winding movement. This timepiece has all the characteristics like the watches with the reference 3865. Besides different mechanism, it also has different screw heads on its bezel. Instead ceramic, this timepiece has diamond-like carbon (DLC) screw heads.
All new Ingenieur watches celebrate the IWC’s cooperation with the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team. IWC’s designers took their inspiration from materials which are typically used in Formula One. This guarantees sturdiness, reliability and precision of the new watches for a long time.
