Last year, IWC enriched its Big Ingenieur line of watches with a new special edition timepiece dedicated to the outstanding French soccer player. Big Ingenieur Edition Zinédine Zidane is limited to only 500 pieces worldwide. Each timepiece comes with all the standard rugged durability that the Ingenieur case and design is famous for.
Unlike the very first IWC Ingenieur Automatic Edition Zinédine Zidane which sported the colors of the French national team, this watch reflects the individual taste of the former soccer star. Thus, Zidane was personally involved in the color scheme and the individualization of this Ingenieur.
The second timepiece dedicated to the legend of European soccer is housed in a large 45.5 mm case with the thickness of 15 mm. The round case is crafted from the top-quality stainless steel. This limited edition timepiece is powered by IWC’s in-house manufactured Caliber 51113 mechanical movement with Pellaton winding system and the power reserve of amazing 168 hours (7 days). The automatic movement built on 42 jewels produces 28,800 vibrations per hour.
The case of Zizou second watch is protected on both sides by convex sapphire crystals with antireflective coatings. Also, the watch has its own built-in antimagnetic protection. The case construction provides water resistance to sufficient 120 meters (400 feet), which makes this watch perfectly suitable for water activities.
A Perfectly Readable Dial
Ingenieur Edition Zinédine Zidane features a dark chocolate brown dial and a crocodile leather strap in the same color. The dial includes Arabic numeral 10 marked in red, because that number was reserved exclusively for Zizou when he played for the French national team. The numerals 27 and 45 are also colored in red. These numerals stand for the minutes of play in which Zidane scored probably the two most important goals of his career. That was at the World Cup 2008 final match whichFrance won 3:0 againstBrazil and became the world champion.
Its chocolate dial also features a power reserve display located at the 3 o’clock position and a date window situated at the 6 o’clock position. The last day on the power reserve indicator is colored in eye-catching red.
The engraved name of the famous soccer player, as well as Zizou’s lucky number, also can be seen on the winding rotor through the perfectly visible transparent sapphire-glass case back. On the side of the case, at the 9 o’clock position, it is inscribed “ONE OUT OF 500” to remind you that the only few owned this IWC’s masterpiece.
Besides being the leading figure of the generation of French soccer players that won the 1998 World Cup and 2000 European Championship, Zinedine Zidane (born on June 23, 1972) was awarded the title of FIFA World Player of the Year on three occasions, and World Sportsman of the Year in 1999.
The referent number of this special edition timepiece is IW500508 and it can be purchased for $13,600.
