The Aquatimer watch family has been entirely updated in 2014 and now it is being enriched with three new models. One of them is dedicated to the eponymous volcano in the Galapagos Islands named IWC Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “La Cumbre Volcano”. This eye-catching newcomer is produced in the limited series of only 500 pieces.
The Swiss watchmaker has been partnering with the Charles Darwin Foundation to preserve the fragile ecosystem of the Galapagos Islands since 2009. This particular model is dedicated to the La Cumbre volcano which is located on the island of Fernandina.
The Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “La Cumbre Volcano“ timepiece is housed in a round stainless steel case coated with matte black rubber. The case measures 44mm in diameter and 17mm in thickness and it is constructed to resist water pressure up to 300 meters (about 1,000 feet). The watch is shielded on both sides with convex, sapphire crystals with antireflective coating. Each case of the new Aquatimer watch has been individually pressure-bonded and heat-bonded with the rubber.
The new IWC diver’s watch features an internal rotating bezel, central seconds and minute hands of the chronograph display which are colored dark red to symbolize seething magma. Also, the reverse side of the watch reveals the engraving which shows the volcano erupting.
The impeccable diving watch is equipped with the in-house manufactured caliber 89365 automatic chronograph movement with a flyback function. The 35 jewels movement oscillates at the rapid frequency of 28,800 alternation per hour (4 Hz) and is capable to store enough energy to keep the watch ticking for at least 68 hours when fully charged.
The diving time can be adjusted via the mechanical external/internal rotating bezel. This ingenious in-house manufactured development perfectly combines the legibility of an internal rotating dive ring with the ease of use of an external bezel. The IWC SafeDive system provides that the inner ring can be moved only in one direction – anticlockwise. For the best visibility in deep murky water, IWC has coated hands, numerals and internal rotating bezel with lume coating.
IWC Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “La Cumbre Volcano” (ref. IW379505) comes with a comfortable, black rubber strap, fitted with a stainless steel pin buckle.
It is important to be mentioned that the part of the proceeds from sales of the new limited edition watch will be used to support the Charles DARWIN Foundation.
