Hublot Big Bang Full Magic Gold Watch
The mentioned gold alloy that Hublot used for the watch is a proprietary mixture that the brand developed together with Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, known also for its abbreviation EPFL. The alloy that they developed in concert has extraordinary properties and it is considered as the most resilient type of gold. The process of its creation includes mixing of 24K pure gold which is combined with modern high-the materials. The latter ingredient in the mixture is likewise made in a very complex procedure where boron carbon fiber is poured into molds and subsequently treated with extreme temperatures until it becomes rigid. Once the ceramic component of the alloy is created, a molten gold is poured on it and that is how “Magic Gold” is created. The final result is a material which is more than two and a half times more resilient than regular gold. This material was patented by the brand in 2011, while the first timekeeper that debuted the new material with the official certification of 18 K purity saw the light of day one year later.
The new piece by Hublot has “Full Magic Gold” in its name, since it is the watch with the most amount of the alloy in its construction and the brand calls it the most resistant gold watch in existence. However, even though it might seem so, it does not mean that the timekeeper is made entirely out of this material. For practical reasons, the rear is made of micro-blasted and PVD treated titanium.
Apart from the golden alloy which received polished treatment, there are also some other materials on the front side. The lower section of the bezel is made out of composite resin, while the entire bezel is fixed by the means of six H-shaped screws made of black PVD titanium. The case of the timepiece with the reference number 411.MX.1138.RX is circular and it features the diameter of 45 mm. The right side of the case-band is reserved for the crown with the brand’s logo and the chronograph pushers which are made of PVD treated titanium with black satinized finish. As for supported water resistance of the construction, it measures to 100 meters.
Both sides of the housing include sapphire crystals. The one on the front is made with a glare-proofed treatment and embellished with the brand’s logo which is printed on its inner side.
Hublot Big Bang Unico Full MagicGold timekeeper features a skeletonized dial that reveals the most notable components of the watch’s movement; It also includes applied Arabic numerals and hour markers which are gold plated and satin finished, as well as coated with black SuperLuminova. The central hands of the watch are made in the same fashion, while the only difference is that they are additionally treated with a micro-blasted finish. The face of the watch includes two chronograph counters. At the three o’clock, one can notice a minute counter whose far right section is interrupted and reserved for the aperture that reveals the white-colored disc that shows the current date. The opposite section of the timekeeper’s face shows the small seconds sub-counter. The rings of sub-counter are also gilt and embellished with satin finishes.
The watch that marks the tenth anniversary of the Big Bang collection and which came as the end result of three-year long process of research centers its functioning on HUB1242 caliber. It is a self-wiinding movement with 38 jewels. It possesses a fly-back chronograph with a column-wheel and a double-clutch which can all be seen on the skeletonized sections of the watch’s dial. The diameter of the in-house caliber that the brand used in several other models from the same collection measures to exactly 30 mm. Its power reserve is three entire days. As for the embellishments on the watch’s caliber, one can notice a nice anthracite gray treatment which can also be seen on the winding rotor of the caliber.
“The most resilient gold watch in the world” is paired with a black rubber attachment. The ribbed strap fastens with a deployant buckle clasp which is made of black PVD titanium which is combined with a ceramic insert in the same color. The sporty looking watch is created in a restricted edition that includes 250 copies. As fo the price of Hublot Big Band Unico Full Magic Gold, it is set at $37,700.
