Hublot has launched the latest edition of the piece it creates in collaboration with one of the most famous car manufacturers in the world. New Hublot Big Bang Ferrari is released in three limited editions in different materials: King Gold, titanium and carbon. The watch features a number of motifs that mimic the appearance of car components throughout its three dimensional dial, case and even its movement. Hublot Big Bang Ferrari is supplied with an in-house Unico automatic flyback chronograph caliber which is visible from both sides of the case.
Ferrari and Hublot started their collaboration in 2011. The latest product of the link between the two renowned brands is a totally redesigned timepiece with a lot of motifs from the automotive industry. Naturally, most of these elements can be seen on the dial of the watch. The most obvious among them is the prancing horse logo of Ferrari (placed at the bottom), but there are other, more subtle motifs that are present. One of these is the small seconds counter of the chronograph feature which is made in the form that evokes the looks of an air extractor of a car.
The skeletonized dial of the piece also introduces a novel shape of hour and minute hands and has specifically positioned numerals. Instead of being placed horizontally as it is normally the case, the four supported Arabic numerals follow the lines of hour numerals and are therefore tilted to the side. This creates an interesting effect and even though it does not impair its visibility, it might be an issue for people who prefer the traditional lay-out of the dial.
More Ferrari-inspired motifs are visible in the design of the 45 mm wide round housing of the watch. This is mostly done with the appearance of the push-buttons that resemble car pedals and the crown which is made in the form of the Turbo Performance Engineer, normally set in the center of a Ferrari dashboard. Both elements are constructed from black PVD titanium with micro-blasted finish.
Moreover, Hublot Big Bang Ferrari premiers a new design of a bezel which includes countersunk notches for the six screws by which it is fixed to the case. This feature has a double purpose since it adds to the looks of the component and also protects the screws. As for the rest of the construction, it should be noted that the crystal is made from double anti-reflective sapphire, while the lugs are in black and red composite resin. The housing of Hublot Big Bang Ferrari is waterproof to 100 meters.
The novel Hublot timekeeper bases its functioning on an in-house Unico automatic movement. It is a column-wheel chronograph with a double clutch (visible on the dial side) which has the hour counter driven directly by the barrel. This means there is no jumper in the mechanism which greatly increases the reliability of the set-up. For this model, the oscillating weight of the caliber was made in the form of Ferrari wheel rims. It should also be said that the 330-part movement features components made of silicon that guarantee it has reduced lightness and improved performance. The movement operates at the frequency of 4 Hz and it has the extended power reserve that lasts three days. The flyback chronograph movement has its main-plate, bridges and rotor all covered with black PVD plating.
Hublot Big Bang Ferrari is made with its case in titanium, King Gold alloy or carbon. The titanium edition is the most numerous one with 1000 copies, while two other materials include 500 pieces.
There are two options for the strap. These are a black Alcantara leather strap and a rubber attachment in the same color.
