The Fortis in the air – The Flieger Automatic Chronograph
Two times awarded Fortis automatic Flieger Chronograph watch represents longevity, sustainability and economic compatibility in super-quality Swiss pack.
Although Fortis didn’t start its production as an aeronautical watchmaker, after many successful experiments in almost all fields, aeronautical timepieces and watches for aviation had become their focus, after the introduction of their Flieger collection in 1987.
It turns out as one of the most brilliant move for the Swiss company, which along with the most prestigious awards, has become the exclusive supplier for manned Russian’s space missions and worldwide military air operations.
After 20 years, The Flieger Chronograph Automatic wristwatch is still among the top sellers on the worldwide markets.
The 2004 European Aviation Watch of the Year
The aviation industry rapidly discovered the uniqueness of its concept and design, and the most significant model from the Fortis Flieger Classic collection was pronounced as the 2004 European Aviation Watch of the Year.
The Flieger Chronograph Automatic features the 40 mm case, covered on both side with anti-reflective sapphire crystal.
Solid built stainless steel case (slightly smaller than the B-42 range under Fortis) and ‘screwed in’ crown guarantees 100 meter of water-resistants. Watch comes either with the stainless steel bracelet with flip-lock clasp or with the leather strap.
The 2009 watch of the year
The automatic ETA Valjoux Caliber 7750 movement contains 25 jewels, that vibrate at 28,800 times per hour, and Incablock shock absorber.
Highly reliable movement equips great functionality – the chronograph, hour, minute, permanent small second and Tachymeter centre-stop-second. 30 minute counter is at 12 o’clock, 12 hour counter takes a 6 o’clock position; Day/Date indication is at 3 o’clock.
Black dial with luminous hands, hour markers and Arabic numerals makes this chronograph highly readable, even in extreme conditions. The stop-second-hand and the chrono function hands are orange.
For its classic design and lasting appeal, Fortis Flieger Chronograph was also awarded with the „Busse Longlife Designe Award“, as the 2009 watch of the year, which approves its suitability for both – civilian and army use.
