Certina DS Podium Ole Einar Bjorndalen GMT Chronograph Watch

The Swiss watchmaker Certina presented its new DS Podium GMT Chronograph watch that pays tribute to Ole Einar Bjorndalen. The Norwegian professional biathlete is the most successful biathlete in the history of sport and this novelty will be produced in the limited quantity of only 1974 pieces which is the year when one of the greatest athletes of all time was born.

This newcomer is designed in the same sport-classical style that has made the DS Podium GMT line famous worldwide. The new exclusive edition comes in a round, mid-sized case which measures 42 mm in diameter and 11 mm in thickness. This sporty men’s timepiece boasts a satin-finished stainless steel case that incorporates a fixed bezel with a tachymeter scale. A black PVD coated scale is inscribed with white Arabic numerals and with the red inscription “Limited Edition”. On the right side of the case, there is a screw down crown and two chronograph push buttons. They are also domed with black PVD.

The fashionable watch for the world travelers with outstanding tastes

The new two-time-zone GMT Chronograph is equipped with the Swiss made ETA Caliber G10.961 quartz movement. The precise and reliable movement has been incorporated in several Swiss watches (for example, the latest one is the Tissot Couturier GMT watch).

The case of Certina DS Podium Ole Einar Bjorndalen GMT Chronograph is shielded with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. It has a reinforced case back which is engraved to show its unique limited edition production number, as well as Ole Einar Bjørndalen’s signature.

The watch is equipped with the brand’s famous DS (Double Security) protection system. This Certina’s concept protects the watch movement from all negative external influences, such as pressure, temperature, moisture, dust and shock. The case construction guarantees water-resistance up to 100 meters (330 feet) beneath water surface.

The boldly contrasting shades on the dial

The black dial features three sub-dials and a date display. For chronograph functionality, the watch uses a two-handed chronograph counter situated at the 2 o’clock position for measuring time up to 12 hours and 30 minutes and a central seconds hand colored in striking red. A small second counter is located at the 6 o’clock position, while a special GMT time zone counter is positioned at the 10 o’clock position. The date display appears in a small black-on-white aperture at the 6 o’clock position.

The dial offers the highest level of legibility thanks to Superluminova substance applied on the hour and minute hands, the GMT hand and indexes. The main Arabic numerals 3, 9 and 12 are also treated with Superluminova, which assures perfect readability under all lighting conditions, even in deep darkness.

The watch is attached to a black woven-look leather strap with red stitching and secured to the wearer’s wrist with a butterfly clasp with two push buttons. This novelty comes in a special gift box with an additional stainless-steel bracelet and the certificate of authenticity. I still do not have information about the price tag, but I assume it will not be more than $800.

This is a very nice watch. I like the black leather strap. It looks so lovely. Also, the movement is great and very reliable. This is a nice watch with a very acceptable price.

  2. Arden Salcedo February 13, 2012 at 2:16 PM ·

Sorry, Elroy, but $800 is not very acceptable for everybody. Honestly, for me, that price is too high. I can afford $200 for a very nice watch from Casio or Fossil.

  3. Dick Lawrence February 13, 2012 at 2:17 PM ·

My dear Arden, you said a very good fact. You can buy Casio or Fossil watch, but that is not Certina. That is the difference! Certina is much better brand than Casio and Fossil. If you want a good, quality and reliable watch with a lot of finest features and precise movement you must pay four times more than your budget is, but you will be sure that you have the right thing!
