New Certina DS 1 Automatic Watch

The new DS1 Automatic Watch boasts a totally new styling and at the same time retains the brilliant technological attributes of its predecessor which for several decades has been a reliable companion for many international explorers.

When Certina launched its revolutionary DS “Double Security” system in 1959, the new page in the brand’s history has begun. This protective concept integrated a shock-resistant assembly, a reinforced case and a thick sapphire crystal, along with hermetic seals on the stem, the crown, as well as on the reinforced case back.

Now, the Swiss watchmaker introduces the redesigned DS1 watch that will be, without doubt, the worthy successor of its ancestor.

Certina DS 1 Automatic WatchThis Certina’s novelty is housed in a mid-sized case crafted from polished stainless steel. The round case incorporates a thin fixed bezel and a screw down crown situated at the 3 o’clock position. The crown tip is encrusted with the previous, historical Certina’s logo. The case is shielded on both sides with convex antiglare sapphire crystals that protect the watch from everyday wear and tear and provide a clear view on the uncluttered dial and on the see-through case back. Through the transparent case back, you can look at the Swiss made ETA 2824-2 automatic movement at work. The devoted movement built on 25 jewels, preserves sufficient 40 hours of power reserve and produces 28,800 vibrations per hour. It provides the usual functions of hour, minute and second, as well as a date function. The case is constructed to resist water pressure up to 100 meters (330 feet). The new DS 1 Automatic is attached to a croco-finish brown leather strap, terminating in a folding buckle with two push-buttons.

Certina DS 1 Automatic WatchCertina offered a choice between an anthracite and a silver colored dial. The first one comes with gray indices and hands, while the model with a silver dial matches rose-gold PVD details. The center of the dial boasts a nice textured guilloche-like pattern, which gives the modern touch to this watch. To insure the greatest legibility under all kinds of lighting conditions, hour and minute hands, as well as the hour markers are treated with Superluminova. The redesigned dial of DS1 Automatic also comprises Roman numerals at the quarter hour, which gives a lightly classical feel. The right date is available through the small date window which is located between 4 and 5 o’clock positions. The date aperture cuts through the visual line that keeps apart the textured central disk of the dial from the outer side.

This dress timekeeper will be available with the price tag of approximately $725 (CHF 680) and it can be a perfect gift for various occasions, such as birthdays, graduations and anniversaries.

I have not seen such a beautiful and stylish watch for a couple of years. It is great! I cannot believe that now I can wear my preferred watch model.
My dream is to have a watch like this. How much is it?

  2. Nicolas Huber January 18, 2012

Model with black leather strap is definitely the best watch from this collection, because it looks like it was designed for serious people who know what they want in life. I know what I want for Christmas present. This is definitely the best choice!

  3. Zack Emerton January 18, 2012

I like the Roman numbers on the dial (on o’clock positions). They look specific and interesting. My personal opinion is – this watch needs to have a chronograph. With the chronograph, it would be the best watch ever from Certina.

  4. Greg Pack February 13, 2012

I like the model with a white dial. It is the best model from this collection. Also, this watch has an excellent price. It costs only $725. That is fabulous!

  5. Michael Bosh February 13, 2012

This watch is for a true gentleman. Its design gives the impression that the person who wears this watch is a very serious and responsible, like this watch.

  6. Wayne Jonson February 13, 2012

I bought this watch a few days ago and I’m very happy because of that. It looks really fantastic. I recommend this watch to anyone. You’ll not regret if you buy this Certina watch.

  7. Jonathon Owen August 15, 2012

The model with a black dial looks very stylish and elegant. This is not a surprise since Certina has very elegant and prestige watches. This is definitely one of those elegant models. It would be true pleasure and honor for me to carry this watch on my wrist.

  8. Lionel Felisa August 15, 2012

Honestly, there is no way that this watch can be good to any man……It doesn`t look anything special, it`s old – fashioned, it doesn`t have any cool and useful features. Who knows, maybe I would buy it if there was a chronograph and a date, but not right now.

  9. Mike Irons August 15, 2012

Jonathon, you`re right. It would be a true honor to wear this watch. It`s probably the first old – fashioned watch that I wish to have, but definitely not the last one. I intend to buy this nice timepiece and to enrich my personal watch collection.
