The first watch from Certina’s famous DS 1 line, launched back in 1960, achieved a great success worldwide, as well as a revisited edition from 2007. The Swiss watchmaker expects exactly the same with their latest edition from this line – DS 1 Chronograph watch.
This automatic timepiece preserves simple lines, sporty style and integrity of the original model, and at the same time, it brings a more dynamic dial, exclusive asymmetrical push pieces and more reliable and precise Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph movement, built on 27 jewels.
Its robust, masculine case, measuring 43 mm in diameter, with the thickness of 15 mm, is crafted from the top grade, satin-finished, 316L stainless steel. The case construction incorporates a large and assertive crown, stamped with the Certina’s former logo and two asymmetrical push pieces (the start and stop pusher is a little bit larger and easier to use). This timekeeper comes with a see-through case back, allowing you to look at the state-of-the-art ETA movement and self-winding mass.
The newest DS 1 watches line includes four different variations. Two models are attached to a five-row polished and satin-finished steel bracelet with a folding clasp (their referent numbers are C006.414.11.051.01 and C006.414.11.051.00), while two other variants are accompanied with a brown leather strap, also terminating in a folding clasp (the referent numbers of these two models are C006.414.16.051.00 and C006.414.16.031.00).
Black or silvered dial, with large hour and minute hands, and a thin second hand, comprises three chronograph subsidiary dials that can be used for measuring time up to 12 hours, 30 minutes, and 60 seconds. Chronograph counters with black or sand-blasted nickel-tinted edges are set at the 6, 12 and 9 o’clock positions. A date and day window is also included and it is handsomely placed at the three o’clock position. A tachymeter scale with indices and Arabic numerals is set on the raised rim.
The dial is guarded by a non-reflecting convex sapphire crystal that protects it from scratches, and provides perfect readability. DS 1 Chronograph watch is also protected with a famous DS (Double Security) system, and like almost all Certina’s watches it is water resistant to 100 meters (330 feet), so it can be worn for swimming, bathing or even for shallow snorkeling.
The retail price of this exquisite men’s wristwatch is definitely on the higher side for Certina. The models with leather straps are approximately $2,100, while the versions with steel bracelets are a little bit more expensive – $2,150.
