The Grenchen-based watchmaker, Breitling, has created a new feminine version of its watch from the diving collection called Superocean. The newcomer is just 36 mm wide and made with the second generation of Superocean dials which feature with more Arabic numerals that their predecessors. New Breitling Superocean is supplied with an ETA-based automatic mechanical movement which is fairly poor when it comes to the supported features. The new ladies’ watch can be bought with two different dial colors, while the choice of available attachments is much broader when it comes to both materials and colors.
If one inspects the appearance of the watch and its functions, Breitlng Superocean II 36 is not that unique or special. It derives from the Superocean series of diving watches among which are several others that support exactly the same functions as this watch. These are dubbed Superocean (which are available in two different sizes, with diameters of 44 and 42 mm) and Superocean II (in the same dimensions). They all feature the same functions, while the only difference leis in the appearance of the dials. The second generation features Arabic numerals for 11 of the hour positions (only the one at the three o’clock is omitted, since it is used as the location of its date aperture).
Even though the dial is in 12-hour format, the inside ring also includes indications for hours from 13 to 24 positions which might be convenient feature for those who have hardships when the time is expressed in 24-hour format. Superocean II timekeepers, and this one as well, also have Arabic numerals, placed in the increments of five positions on the minute/second scale, instead of plain markers that were used in the first iteration. The only major difference of the latest diving watch by Breitling from the rest of the basic Superocean models is the fact that it is the smallest watch in the offer with its diameter being 36 mm, as it can deduced from the name of the piece. The thickness on the other hand measures to 11.25 mm.
By the way, the circular case of the timepiece is made of stainless steel. It also has a serrated and rubber-molded bezel for easier manipulation during the dive. As it is usually the case with bezels of diving watches, it can be only turned to one direction. The screwed-in rear side of the case is made of solid steel, while the front one includes a cambered sapphire crystal which features anti-reflective coating on both of its sides.
Apart from the use of glare-proofed crystal, the visibility is enhanced with oversized luminous hands and the same sort of coating applied to the numerals. Another expected trait that derives from the watch’s purpose is the fact that it is able to withstand water pressure up to 200 meters (660 feet) which is more than sufficient for underwater adventures.
Breitling Superocean II 36 is equipped with Breitling B 17 caliber. This specific caliber is used on all of the basic Superocean models, as well for plethora of other watches from various collections. It is an automatic movement with ETA 2824-2 base. It integrates 25 jewels and it has the frequency of 28,800 vph. Its modest power storage is enough to keep the watch ticking for around 40 hours.
There are two dial options for the smallest among the Superocean series models. They are Volcano Black if you aim to achieve the maximal possible legibility or Hurricane White if you desire a more delicate and feminine look.
When it comes to the choice of the attachment, there are a lot more options, as it can be expected for a model that is intended for ladies. Three available materials are stainless steel, rubber and leather. There is only one supported steel bracelet and it is three-linked Professional III type with the widest middle section. The available rubber straps are Ocean Racer II with large circular perforations, as well as Diver Pro II which feature a protruded inscription of the brand’s name. While the former can be got in black or white colors, the latter one offers choice between black and blue.
There are also two kinds of leather straps that can be paired with the piece. The first one is the plain one with white stitching and it comes in gold, black, brown and blue shades. The most options when colors are concerned is offered by Sahara leather strap which features a pattern of vertical lines that in a way makes it resemble a texture of a desert. This type of leather wristlet can be bought in black, red, blue, brown, orange, white, rose or fuchsia shade. Depending on the ultimate choice of the attachment, it will be supplied with either a folding-clasp or a tang-type clasp (steel bracelet is solely available with a folding-clasp, rubber ones are made with the other kind of clasp, while leather strap allows the choice between the two).
