The Grenchen based watchmaker has announced the release of two new limited editions of its larger version of Navitimer 01. Both newcomers are made to celebrate the brands ties with the world of aviation. This comes as no surprise since they are new iterations of the legendary pilot’s watch which was first released in 1952. The first new edition of the piece is distinguished with its black and brown face with gold-colored accents. This version is launched in the edition that includes 1,000 pieces. The second one celebrates Breitling’s involvement in the restoration of legendary aircrafts, or to be more specific of a vintage DC-3 model in the brand’s possession. This 500-piece model is will tour around the globe with the airplane and it will not be available for sale until September 2017.
Navitimer Collection is named after one of the most iconic watches in Breitling’s history and it is one of the most cherished series in the brand’s offer. Its two latest additions are both equipped with the brand’s own Breitling B01 caliber which makes them even more appealing. Two new Navitimer 01 models come in the larger 46 mm wide housings (there is also a smaller 43-mm version of the model).
Breitling Navitimer 01 (46 mm) Limited Edition – 1,000-Piece Series with a Black and Brown Dial
The first restricted series is distinguished with its striking dial that was made with the use of “par epergne” technique. The face of the watch which is made from a solid silver base is enriched with a color-scheme that is not so common when it comes to Breitling’s products. The dial is mostly black (which is usual), but it also includes brown colored chronograph counters and has a bezel in the same tone. The black and brown face is combined with gold-colored hands and chrono pointers which gives the piece a vintage feel that underlines the rich heritage of the brand and the model itself.
Breitling Navitimer 01 (46 mm) Limited Edition is made with a transparent case-back. It can be coupled with several types of attachments. These are a steel bracelet, a crocodile or a plain leather strap and a rubber wristlet. The last among them features an aircraft tire-tread profile which once again refers to the aviation origin of the Navitimer models.
Breitling Navitimer 01 (46mm) DC-3 World Tour – A Watch that Celebrates the 77th Birthday of the Legendary Airplane
The second limited edition which is still not available is a bit more specific when it comes to its aviation roots. This restricted series consists of 500 pieces and it is dedicated to the DC-3 aircraft in the brand’s possession. It is one of just 150 existing models of the legendary aircraft that rose to prominence during the World War II, because of its widespread use in Normandy in 1944. More than 16,000 planes of this kind were engaged in the transport of the troops during the decisive campaign. The airplane in Breitling’s possession was originally made in 1940 and was used for both military and civil purposes. The historical plane was later restored and is now used in various air shows.
Breitling has decided to mark the 77th birthday of the plane with a world tour which will start in March and last until September. During this time, the plane will fly all around the globe and it will be displayed at different events. There are even plans to transport a few lucky passengers from one show to another.
In order to mark the world tour of the airplane, Breitling has created a special limited edition which will be displayed alongside it. Breitling DC-3 World Tour model will include several details that show the origin of the model, including the special engraving on the case-back (which is in this instance not made with a transparent section).
This model has a more common color scheme on its dial where black background is combined with white counters and an inner bezel in the same shade. Breitling DC-3 World Tour will be available for sale once its voyage around the world is over. The fist pictures of the new model that celebrates the historic airplane show that it the watch is paired with a brown leather strap with contrasting stitching. However, it is almost a certainty that there will be more attachment options.
Each of the new limited editions is made with a stainless steel housing. Other shared traits are a cambered sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective treatment and a bi-directional rotating bezel with a circular slide rule. The housing is 46 mm wide, 14.5 mm thick and it is waterproof to 30 meters. Moreover, each of the restricted series runs on Breitling in-house chronograph caliber B 01 which operates at the frequency of 4 Hz and has the power reserve which lasts for 70 hours.
These new editions expand the offer of restricted series of Navitimer 01 (46mm) model, since the brand already has a 250-piece red gold model with a black dial (with black counters and a white inner bezel).
